POSTS STORIES REELS

Last week, I had the pleasure of collaborating with the remarkable violinist Liv Migdal and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra to perform “Yizkor” (Evocation) by Paul Ben-Haim, for solo violin and orchestra written in 1943.

“Yizkor” in Hebrew refers to the Jewish memorial service for the dead. This piece seems to have served as both a personal mourning and a national evocation, written in memory of the Jewish musicians who perished in Europe during the Holocaust.

To me, this piece carries a contemporary weight that is as heavy as what Ben-Haim faced in 1943. I like to believe our collaboration was also bound by a shared grief over the scars left by ideological extremism of the same source: the horrific massacres of October 7th 2023 in Israel, and of January 8th and 9th 2026 in Iran.

These dates stand as grim monuments to the shadows currently cast over the Middle East, where innocent lives are sacrificed at the altar of radicalism, overshadowing a millennia of shared history and heritage throughout the region, but the cultural foundation of these bonds will be the driving force for the light to triumph over darkness again.

It was a great pleasure to be part of the inauguration concert of the 66th @warsawautumn festival!

Thanks to each and everyone of the musicians of the @sinfonia_varsovia for this unforgettable experience, to the festival management for this invitation, and to both fabulous composers Malin Bång and Sławomir Wojciechowski and their music for being the reason for it all!

Such a pity that I did not get the time to attend the Polish premiere of Fozié Majd‘s „Shábkūk“ for string orchestra performed at the festival tonight, but hats off to the curators for making the second performance of this piece after 50 years possible!

I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know and to work with these wonderful musicians.
Have I ever said how much I love my job? 💜

Thank you, @musicbiennalezagreb and @zgfilharmonija for making this happen!

In my first op-ed for the @Jerusalem_Post, I write about the necessity to reclaim our story.
It was never the Islamic Republic’s to tell.
It’s time to change the author.

Vive l’Iran !
