Title- Marie Curie and Her Daughters
By - I & S Greenberg
Pages - 64

Comment- 5🌟

This is the first book I’d ever read to my daughter! Books like this make me grateful for books.

REVIEW

I’ve always wanted to marry someone who I can/would change the world with. Marie Curie’s story like RBG’s is a constant reminder to me of why it remains important to me till date.

This story is about love, strength, science, sacrifice, hardwork, strife and glory.

I first heard about Marie Curie from the CBS sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

I love and admire a lot of women but I do not know ANY WOMAN MORE INSPIRING than MARIE!

From being a young polish girl who lost her mother before she really knew her, to not being able to attend university because she was a woman, to moving to Paris where she attained a Masters and PHD (and became the first female professor ever at the University of Paris), Marie Curie became the FIRST person and ONLY woman to ever win a Nobel Prize in both Physics and Chemistry.

She also would become a single parent early in life, because she lost the most supportive husband to an accident, was refused a lot of opportunities because she was a woman, had two very opposite daughters (a scientist and an artist), served in the World war, met the American President and was the First of the Curie Family Legacy of Five Nobel Prizes. Her first daughter also won the Nobel Prize just after she died. Her second daughter lived till she was 102 and was a world renowned Journalist.

The most interesting thing for me about her though was her humility and dedication to work. She was so shy and ran away from recognition that she refused to attend her first Nobel Prize ceremony which she won along sides her husband despite the fact that the research was actually hers.

I teared up at Page 27 (slide 2)🥺. I love that she lived a wonderful life of impact and inspired many later generations of scientists, (especially female) despite everything she went through even through depression.

This is a book for everyone, men, women and children. I highly recommend.♥️

Title- Ego is the Enemy
By - Ryan Holiday
Pages - 226

Comment- 5🌟! I really really liked it! Just read the underlined parts of slide 2. Only your ego or maybe laziness borne of ego, lol! will not make you read this one.

REVIEW

As a start I’d read one book by the author - Stillness is key and I had a different perception of his personality until I read this. Lol. It was as if I read an entirely different author. In this book. He was flat out blunt (please read slide 2😄).

In this book the author basically explains as the title suggests that most people believe that the greatest impediment to our success are external factors from the outside world. The fact however is that even with Children, ego remains a big impediment to learning more and developing our talents. We think we are already good enough and a taste of early success can blind us to our faults and even bring about future problems. When we experience failure, our ego magnifies every situation and makes bouncing back much harder.

The book draws on real life stories of fascinating people who attained great levels of power by conquering their egos. As well as as examples of person who ruined theirs because they couldn’t.

One description of the book I read said that “in this era of social media, reality tv snd other forms of shameless self promotion, the battle against ego must be fought on many fronts.”

This was/is a life changing book for me because it has helped me check myself, my motives and my responses. All my life, I’ve always been told I’m special and so I basked in success, almost to a point of complacency and I took failure really bad. If you’re like me, this is a must read for you!

R E A D I N G T I P

- Maximize your 24 hours!

I was having a conversation with a senior colleague at the office and she wanted to know how I have any time at all to read considering that our work is A LOT being a tier 1 law firm, the fact that I teach kids and also run a cooking page. And these are just the things she knows.

I have perfect excuses to not read, but like I always say, it’s about priorities. I feel a compelling need to never waste my daily 24 hours, so I maximize every time I have to either be productive or to try and rest or help others. More than that, there is so much to know and to learn and reading helps me feel like I’m actually doing more about my personal development besides the fact that I find the activity both calming and entertaining.

The truth is, I maximize every spare time I have to read. During breakfast, lunch, dinner, commute (when I still had people driving me), and especially with Lagos traffic, even while waiting at banks, people’s offices etc.

I always have a book with me so that when I catch a little break, I can read. Its a really helpful tip.

So the tip here is, maximize your meal, commute, and waiting time to read. It might be the only time a day you get if like me you have a very busy life.

BOOK 22

Title - Adulting 101
By - Morolake Ojuola @thewholesomelifewithmo
Pages - 135

Rating: 5 🌟

REVIEW

I’ve been MIA for a while and as much as I wanted to be so constant on SM, managing 4 IG pages, writing a book, trying to publish another, teaching kids, being an energy lawyer in a tier 1 law firm in Lagos and keeping up my mental health has been alot. But books like this are answers to my prayer.

I do not know the author personally, and this is my most honest review but take your time to go through the slides. I should have done this sooner but I wanted to take a bomb-ass picture of the book so I just kept procrastinating and weeks turned into months.

*** You know how no one ever prepares you fully for life and adulting, books like this just makes your life easier. It doesn’t however mean you’d be immune to L’s! So here are my thoughts:

1. Adulting 101 is a nugget style book, which means it is the perfect book for readers and non-readers. It is incredibly easy to read!

2. It covers almost every imaginable experience you should expect to face as a high performing adult and the author uses her real life experiences to make everything relatable. The experiences are not the ice-cream kind.

3. The book gives very practical advice in very minimal detail and then backs it up with the importance of the God factor. It is perfect for everyone Christian or not!

4. It answered alot of questions that I’d just been trying to figure out at this stage of my life. I’ve always been a high flier, so adapting to this phase where I come off as almost ordinary has been hard. Impostors syndrome, chronic self doubt, and toxic relationships almost ruined me.

5. The author uses humor and colloquial, friendly language. She writes like she’s talking to you and not in the common motivational ‘aspire to perspire’ way. She also concludes every chapter with reflective questions that would mean alot to you if you are a very self-aware person.

My only ISSUE with the book was that it was too easy to read and for some reason, I’ve gotten used to very challenging books that are really verbose and requires a dictionary.

BOOK 21

Title: The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down

By: Haemin Sumin

Pages: 265

REVIEW

I do not remember what made me buy this book but I’ll say whatever it was is nothing short of Divine; God. I’d read his first book ‘Love for Imperfect Things’ but I always have a preference for books with more words. His books are scarcely verbose, and this makes them perfect for new readers or people who struggle to read.

This book for me is like a healing manual. Working 4 jobs and constantly struggling with anxiety, paranoia and stress leaves me in panic mode a lot and without a-lot of time to slow down. This book answered a lot of the questions I’ve struggled with and provided me with wisdom and calm.

The book is divided into 9 very easy chapters on Rest, Mindfulness, Relationships, Life, the Future, Spirituality...

It is a wonderfully illustrated book and a guide to mindfulness that speaks to anxieties that have become a part of modern life. This book contains wisdom that transcends religion, age, border or race and serves as a kind reminder of the strength and joy that comes with slowing down.

It holds practical universal truths and teaches us how to be calm in a busy world.

If you’re like me with anxiety, a demanding and stressful work life, who constantly finds the need to slow down, then this really easy to read book is for you.

BOOK 20

Title: The Mafia Manager
By: V.

Pages: 128

REVIEW

Chances are you’ve heard of the Mafia - you’ve seen the movie The Godfather based on the book by Mario Puzo or have perhaps heard the name Don Corleon!

This book reveals that management techniques of the, (as they say) the world oldest and best-organized conglomerate - The Silent Empire.

The beauty of this book is the comic validity! You will definitely laugh! Lol! Just look at slide 2😂 which is the intro to the book!

More importantly, it holds very valid leadership and life and work principles that I personally subscribe to and can teach you to be tough! Like the mafia😄 I also love the axioms (see slides 4 & 6)😂!

The book like a lot of books I’ve come to love is like a manual, you keep going back to refer to principles it teaches, but since we aren’t mafia members you’d still need to be careful!

Interestingly the author extends the humor to his bio! All we is that he is called V. - a capo of distinguished fame with many residences all over the world.😂😂

Its also very easy to read. Short pages, short paragraphs. Perfect for people who struggle to read.

Overall rating - 5🌟

Please go through the slides and leave me a consent! See more pages of the book on my stories!
