Four years ago, I arrived at Furman University as a recipient of the Joseph Vaughn Scholarship, named in honor of Furman’s first Black student and graduate. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the impact of Vaughn’s legacy, but throughout my years at Furman, I’ve learned more about his amazing contributions to both the university and the greater Greenville community. It was especially meaningful to also receive the Joseph Vaughn Leadership Award this year. His legacy continues to create opportunities and inspire students decades later, and I am grateful for the path he paved and honored to be a part of the legacy he began 💜🤎 by @young.miya2
