September 11, 2001.

8:06 a.m.: Hopped on my normal train from RVC to Penn Station.

8:46 a.m.: Arrived at Penn and headed through the tunnel toward the main entrance on Seventh Avenue.

8:55 a.m.: While walking across town, I noticed a slew of emergency vehicles screaming down Broadway headed south toward Lower Manhattan. Nothing in my mind was raising a red flag. My headphones were still bumping.

8:58 a.m.: Arrived at my office on 26th Street, between Fifth and Madison, and made my way upstairs.

It was only my second week at work. Two weeks earlier, I had finished a summer internship at 26 Broadway.

9:00 a.m.: The elevator doors opened. I took off my headphones for the first time since putting them on around 8 that morning.

The screams pierced my ears—and have never left my memory:

“A PLANE JUST HIT ONE OF THE TWIN TOWERS!”

9:02 a.m.: I ran out onto our balcony, which faced south with a direct view of the World Trade Center. Thick smoke was billowing from the tower. I kept thinking this might be the worst airline accident I had ever seen.

At the same time, someone said, “Wow, that other plane is flying really close too.”

9:03 a.m.: A moment forever etched into my memory, no matter how many years pass.

The second plane hit.

There were no words. Just utter shock.

Seeing a plane strike a building in real life is something I can never adequately describe. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think about that moment—what I saw and the pain I felt.

I tried to head downtown as quickly as possible. My aunt was there, along with coworkers and friends. I made it as far as 14th Street, where what felt like the entire NYPD was blocking anyone and anything from going farther south.

September 11, 2026: Twenty-five years later.

Rest in peace to every soul we lost that day, and prayers for the friends and families who continue to relive it through their memories.

NEVER FORGET. by @youngjedifresh
