It shapes our environmental attitudes, perceptions and values and challenges people to create healthier, more sustainable relationships with nature. Photographs reflect the present in ways that will be invaluable or instructive for people of the future. These are juried prizes intended to support photographers who are responding to today’s complex environmental issues through innovative photography. The awards will be given every two years. The Awards are organized and produced by the Denver Art Museum (DAM) in Denver, Colorado, with funds endowed by James Balog and other donors. LINK IN BIO by @your21summers

It was July in the South of France and it seemed as if half the country was heading to Arles. As Mia MacFarlane, co-founder of @irkmagazine said, “This week, it’s the place to be in France.” This was my first Recontres De La Photographie d’Arles. I had been invited to review portfolios at the main festival and was looking forward to meeting the international roster of reviewees. Everyone who had been to the festival spoke of the talent, the endless exhibitions, and of course the parties. The week did not disappoint. The twenty photographers that I met with worked in fashion, fine art, documentary, and editorial photography. They heralded from fourteen different countries. That alone provided a survey of contemporary photographic perspectives from around the world... Fine art photography careers rarely follow a linear path. More often, they are shaped by curiosity, risk, and the willingness to pursue an opportunity when it appears. In an exclusive interview, Thomas Werner (@thomaswernerprojects) speaks with Lenscratch editor Eliott Linwood (@elliottlinwood1) about a career spanning photography, curation, writing, publishing, and gallery direction. Werner is the author of The Business of Fine Art Photography (Routledge, New York) and The Fashion Image (Bloomsbury, London), board member for the Santa Fe Center for Photographic Art, and the editor at large for IRK magazine, a Paris-based print publication and website.
