This week as part of the #summerinbath campaign by @visitbathuk I visited Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein Museum.

I must admit I didn't know what to expect and I knew not a lot about Mary Shelley except she wrote Frankenstein!

I came away learning all about her life and how it was shaped by relentless personal tragedy, financial struggles, and social ostracization. Despite the hardships of her youth, she was an incredibly resilient, intellectual, and prolific author. She penned the gothic masterpiece Frankenstein at just 18 years old and maintained a thriving writing career.

She began the novel in the summer of 1816 at the Villa Diodati overlooking Lake Geneva, where she and her future husband Percy Bysshe Shelley were vacationing with Lord Byron. She finished writing the novel after moving to Bath, England, later that year.

Having explored the four floors we then ventured into the basement which I had read was highly intense and the experience is “unsuitable for those with asthma, photo-sensitivity or epilepsy, claustrophobia and heart conditions.” Despite being a scaredy cat I was fine going through but I will leave it to you to guess whether I screamed or not!

Shots 5 and 9 are actually how Mary Shelley perceived how Frankenstein looked. Did you know that Frankenstein was 8ft tall or 240cm? He makes hubby look small 😂

Location: #BathSomerset

Fantastic captures of, and from, Sham Castle. So named because it is merely the facade of a castle, installed to ‘improve’ the view of hills from Bath city. It can be viewed clearly from, as the locals call it, bog island (because of its Victorian toilets). Delighted to share this less seen, yet iconic, piece of Bath’s built heritage ✨🏛️

Yesterday I visited @alcoholeryltd, at Timsbury between Bath and Wells. It was part of the @visitbathuk #summerinbath season.

This destination is dedicated to the crafting and experience of alcohol: Cider, wine, gin, rum, brandy and liqueurs.

I joined in the Cider making, tasting and lunch where we learned how the cider is made. We also had the opportunity of tasting 6 of their ciders, and their award winning gin and crafted rum. This was followed by a lunch consisting of a delicious tomato soup and crusty bread.

I have to say I particularly enjoyed their rum, and most of the ciders! The Pot Black we were told is like marmite and you either love it or hate it! It wasn't for me but some people in the group enjoyed it.

It was really interesting listening to the history of the company, and what is involved in starting up a distillery.

They also hold other Experiences such as Cider Tasting, and Gin and Rum Tasting. If you're looking for somewhere new to eat or have a coffee there is also a cafe here, plus a shop where you can buy their produce and other locally sourced items.

Catch the video at the end, it was quite noisy, but great to see participation from our group.
