We spend so much time taking care of our homes. Cleaning, maintaining, organizing, fixing things, and keeping everything running.

But how much is your home doing for YOU?

I’m talking about a home that makes everyday life easier. That feels good to walk into. That gives you space to relax, enjoy yourself, and spend more time doing the things you love.

It’s not about having a perfect home. It’s about creating one that looks good, feels good, and actually supports the way you want to live.

Because beautiful surroundings are wonderful. But when your home works beautifully for you, too? That’s when it really starts to feel like your favorite destination. ✨🏡

☀️Eight days!☀️ That’s roughly how long one study estimated it could take our body clocks to adjust to the fall time change under certain lighting conditions.

And that got me thinking...

You know how wonderful that extra hour feels at first? And then, before you know it, you’re used to it and it doesn’t feel so special anymore?

Today also happens to be Blank Canvas Day! On the first of every month, I like to look at the month ahead as a blank canvas, before it gets filled in with all the usual commitments and to-dos.

It’s a chance to ask myself: What do I need this month? How would I love for it to look, feel, and play out? And what can I add, change, or clear out to help make that happen?

So the timing couldn’t be better!

And of course, you don’t need a time change to do this! For those of us whose clocks fell back, that extra hour simply gives us a fun head start.

What if we used this little window to start something we’ve been wanting to make time for?

Maybe it’s a morning walk, reading, working on something you’re excited about, or just having a little time to yourself before the rush of the day starts.

You don’t have to use the whole hour. Just pick something you’d LOVE to have more of in your mornings and give it a try this week.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite part of your day!

Have fun with it! That’s part of the Blank Canvas concept, taking a moment to decide what you’d like instead of just going with the default.

If you could have an extra hour every morning, what would you most want to do with it? (Sleep extra is a completely acceptable answer too btw!)

I had a feeling this might happen when we moved in together.

And here we are! Not as bad as last time but it could very easily turn into that if not aren’t careful 🫣 Speaking from experience!

Organizing a home can be a bit like putting together a puzzle. You want things grouped logically and stored where they make sense, but sometimes you have to move a few pieces around to get everything working again.

So even though this room is currently a mess, I’d rather it be that way for a bit instead of stashing TBD items in random places. But can’t wait to get everything looking in place and looking really good!🥰

That’s a wrap on this series! Can’t wait to continue doing home together!😍🏡🥰

For now, though? The door stays closed! 🤍 by @yourlifeorganizer

# 4 on the list went from being anxious about one thing (I was able to find other homes for the pre-move stuff) TO anxious about another (how will all of this fit in?!)

But in a good way because as an organizer by profession I love a good challenge when it comes to optimizing a space - function and aesthetic wise.

⚽️ We had to get creative with a few categories including the multitude of jackets (most having to do with his various soccer teams he coaches) to his collection of soccer club jerseys that are kept elsewhere, at least for now.

⚽️ For the closet we’ll add a rod and then set up a system for the vast number of sneakers.

⚽️ Also on the list: slim hangers for the shirts (267 - I had to count so we can order enough hangers!!) and tiered hangers for most of the pants (71 pairs :).

⚽️ And I’ll add some labeled dividers for each soccer team so each has its own easy-to-find section.

All in all giving up that extra closet was a great tradeoff!😍❤️🥰

3rd on my top 5 list of what I was anxious about - his big TV was going in my favorite (and tv-free!) room in the house. 📺

The living room is the first room you see when you walk in, and I’ve always loved how open and good it feels.

The white sectional, French writing desk, fireplace, and an armoire I’ve had since I was 10 years old. All pieces I love.
A BIG TV wasn’t exactly part of my vision.

But there was really only one wall where it could go, which meant moving my armoire into the dining room, and situating the sofa with its back to the fireplace. We’ll see how that plays out this winter but I must say, I actually really like the armoire in the dining room!

And the TV?
Turns out, I love that too.

One of my favorite things about home is creating ambiance. And now I can put on beautiful scenes from places around the world, play music, and feel like I’m on vacation without ever leaving my living room.

The real-life part of moving in together? Things aren’t always going to stay exactly the way I had them. But I’m realizing that’s actually a good thing - changing things up feels great and it had been way too long since I’d done that.

And sometimes figuring out what works for BOTH people means trying something you wouldn’t have chosen on your own.

In this case, it turned out even better than I expected.

And my favorite room? Still my favorite room. 🤍

It’s the smallest space in the house, and while sometimes storage has to be utilized to the max, I’ve always wanted this coat closet to feel spacious AND be useful.

It contains:

▫️Car Tote: my go-to for keeping my car clean and carrying stuff out / bringing stuff back in
▫️Beach bag
▫️Beach towels (needed year-round here in Florida, especially with the fishing!)
▫️Umbrella
▫️Dog leashes
▫️Extra bags
▫️Broom, duster + dust mop
▫️Step ladder
▫️PLUS: a few seasonal items we need

STATUS: So far, so good. The one thing that’s been added is a big Ninja appliance that isn’t used often. It actually fit really well in the back of that top shelf - I just moved the towels sideways.

If we keep the roller drawers in there, I’ll add labels to the drawers - we’re only using the top two right now.

HOWEVER…. we aren’t out of the woods yet. With colder weather on the way, some of the (42!) coats and jackets - mostly for ⚽️- will probably make their way in, so stay tuned on this one!❤️

Of the five home things I was a little anxious about before we moved in together, this one was high on the list:
My kitchen counters becoming completely covered in appliances.☕️

So for the video, I actually put all of our appliances out on the counters at once to see what that would look like.
And… yep. Exactly what I was afraid of.

Not because I’m doing a tremendous amount of cooking over here. I’ve cooked for him exactly once, so apparently I must be doing something else right;)

✨But I do care a lot about how my kitchen feels.✨

It’s one of the first things I see when I walk in, we use it multiple times a day and there isn’t a ton of counter space to begin with. I like being able to walk in and have some breathing room - on the counters AND when I open the cabinets.

So instead of trying to make room for everything on the counters, I looked at what actually deserved the kitchen’s prime real estate.

My general rule:
▫️If you use it every day, it makes sense for it to be out and easily accessible.
▫️If you use it often, but not every day, give it a good spot inside a kitchen cabinet.
▫️If you use it occasionally, it probably doesn’t need one of the best spots in your kitchen at all.

Which is how my juicer ended up in the hall closet, and the rice cooker, iced coffee machine and big air fryer got relocated to lower cabinets…. which meant items that were previously there got shifted elsewhere.

It’s kind of like a big puzzle - but I love puzzles, so I’m good with that. Maybe that’s part of why I love organizing so much!🧩

That gave us room for the things we actually use regularly without every appliance we collectively own living on the counter.

Would I love to redo this whole kitchen one day if we stay here? Absolutely. TBD on that one.

But for now, I’m making the space we have work for the way we actually live in it.

That’s really the goal - not fitting more in, but deciding what deserves the easiest access and letting everything else move out of the prime real estate.

And btw I actually would like to cook more… so maybe 2027 is the year I become someone who uses all these appliances.😉👩‍ by @yourlifeorganizer

This summer, home changed in a pretty big way. My home became OUR home. After five years together, my boyfriend moved in. We took our time getting here - and hey … no better way to find out if you’re really meant to be than sharing a home, right?!

He was moving into my place, and don’t get me wrong, I was so excited! BUT there were five specific things, home-wise, that I was a little anxious about.

(And btw I’m sure he could easily make his own list too 🐕🐈‍⬛🐈🐕‍🦺🦎but he’s not on IG so I think I’m safe!)

Soooo . now that we’ve actually lived with it for a few months, I’m going to be showing you those five things - AND how they’re actually going.

And along the way, I’ll share what worked, what didn’t, and a few ideas you might want to steal (or AVOID!) for your own home.🏡

Stay tuned! Xo by @yourlifeorganizer

Maybe that urge to clear, rethink, and rearrange isn’t random after all.🍂

When I heard Magdalena, @mymetaphysicalmaven , talk about preparing our spaces before it’s time to expand, it put words to something I’ve been feeling.

I’ve always believed your environment can do two things. It can make the life you’re living feel better right now, almost like stepping into your own personal retreat. And it can help support who you’re becoming and the life you’re creating next.

The timing feels almost too perfect. I just shared my free SPACE Shifting™ Guide, the five-step method I use to rethink and transform anything from a room to a whole new chapter. And now, as I’m getting ready to begin my Move-In Series, I’m realizing that my own home is ready for another pass through it.

My boyfriend moved in while I was deep in launching Water Watch, and I never really stopped to rethink how everything was working for this new chapter.

So that’s what I’m doing now. The guide is printed, it’s on my clipboard, and apparently now is the perfect time to do it. I even have the planets on my team! 😉

If you’ve been feeling that pull too, grab the free guide through the link in my bio and use it on your own home as I share some of the spaces I’m rethinking during the Move-In Series.

Happy fall! Let’s see what this new season has in store.🍁🍃🍂 by @yourlifeorganizer

It’s here!🎉

I’ve put the five-step process I’ve used for years into a free guide, with space (literally!) for you to work through it.
Sometimes I map the whole thing out on paper. Other times I simply run through the steps in my head. It can be as detailed or as quick as the situation calls for.

Use it for a room, your calendar, a business decision, a move, or a whole new chapter. Really, anything you want to create or change up.

Each step is a vital part of the process, and each brings its own gift. It’s simple. Not always easy. But so powerful when you use the five steps the right way.

KID-FRIENDLY BONUS: If you have kids, I added a simple ritual at the end that can open the door to conversations and reveal far more about what’s really going on than you might expect.

It’s called the SPACE Shifting™ Guide, and you can get it free through the link in my bio.

I cannot wait to see what you use it for!

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, but it doesn’t have to be the end of everything you loved about it.

The Vacation Effect is about noticing what made those days feel so good and intentionally bringing more of it into everyday life.

Maybe it’s unhurried time with your favorite people. A good meal made with fresh ingredients and time to enjoy it. A walk outside, pausing for the sunset, or having a little more room in your calendar.

Choose a few of your favorite pieces to carry into fall.🍁

And if something immediately comes to mind, I’d love to hear what you’re taking with you. ☀️
