On Saturday, April 25th MAD Avenue debuted its first real collection at Akron Fashion Week. I’m still reeling from the preparation and heart it took to get everything together in time for the show. I praise God for his mercy and kindness. I want to thank @rcloth82 for believing in me and recommending me for this show. I also want to thank @fashion_council_newyork for giving me the platform to showcase my collection and for taking a chance on an emerging designer. BIG 27❣️

The creative direction for my birthday photoshoot is “Edgy, Sexy, Cool”. I really wanted to push myself for this photo shoot and work outside of my comfort zone. I wanted to go for a more edgy outfit that really pushed boundaries. It’s important for me to try new silhouettes, experiment with bold textures, and embrace a version of myself that feels both fearless and unapologetic. This shoot is about confidence, growth, and stepping into a space where I can fully express my individuality without hesitation. I want every pose and detail to reflect a sense of power, attitude, and authenticity that captures this new energy I’m stepping into.

The creative direction of this photoshoot is “Black Androgyny. While watching “The Fifth Element,” I became inspired by one of my favorite characters, Ruby Rhod, and his fluidity. I began to think “Black androgyny, but what if it was in the 1969’s and 1970s instead of the future? What does modern black androgyny look like?” After conducting research, I styled the shoot and combined familial male articles of clothing.; creating an interpretation of black androgyny. “A Creative Walk with Mya: Black Androgyny” was an exploration into my own creativity. This documentary short film is about my creative process and the ‘whys’ behind this photoshoot. I am so proud to have directed it and starred in it with @procheespoir. The creative direction of this photoshoot is “Think Outside of the Box”. I am extremely in love with and inspired by ballroom, club kid drag/queer culture. I designed this outfit myself and I was inspired by Leigh Bowery’s iconic facekini! I wanted to design and style my own version of a facekini bodysuit once I got lost in Leigh Bowery pictures on Pinterest. I designed the outfit but it was sewn by BouChic Dressmakers and I’m so grateful for Ms. Sherri’s time and work! I did bejewel the outfit! This is a look I would not usually do and it really scared me. If things don’t scare you, are you taking a risk? I am so proud that I am working harder to design and create for myself. I’ll have to completely sew the next one! See the last slide for my fashion sketch! :p
