This one hurt me bad y’all 😣 I didn’t know D’Angelo grew to resent this song because it changed how the world saw him. The industry turned art into image, meaning into marketing.

Society built a music culture that sells oversexualization as confidence, when real confidence is standing in your art, as you are, and still commanding attention.
Too many artists pour their hearts into their music, only for the industry to strip it of meaning and sell it through sex appeal. It’s not empowerment when the artist loses their voice. It’s exploitation.

My love and deepest condolences go out to Angie Stone and D’Angelo’s son, Michael. May their legacy of soul, truth, and artistry give you strength and comfort. 🕊️💔
