There’s a species of deer so tiny that it looks like someone accidentally left Bambi on the smallest size setting. 😭🦌

Meet the pudu, one of the smallest deer on the planet, native to the forests of South America.

The northern pudu is especially tiny, standing only around 12–14 inches (30–35 cm) tall at the shoulder and weighing roughly 6 kg (13 pounds) or less.

That’s small enough for people to jokingly describe it as being only FOUR APPLES tall. 🍎

Despite their adorable appearance, pudus are fully grown deer, and males even develop tiny, spike-like antlers.

Their compact bodies help them navigate thick forest vegetation, where they spend much of their time hiding from predators and feeding on leaves, shoots, and other plants.

They’re also naturally shy and elusive, making sightings in the wild pretty special.

And yes, as much as they resemble miniature pets, they’re wild animals that belong in their natural habitats.

In 2012, an Australian woman spent nearly THREE HOURS holding her horse’s head above thick mud as the ocean tide slowly approached. 🥹❤️

Nicole Graham was riding along Avalon Beach near Geelong, Australia, with her young daughter when their horses suddenly began sinking into dangerous, quicksand-like mud.

Her daughter’s smaller horse managed to escape, but Nicole’s 18-year-old horse, Astro, wasn’t so lucky.

Weighing approximately 1,100 pounds (500 kg), Astro became trapped so deeply that he couldn’t pull himself free.

Nicole managed to get her daughter to safety, but she refused to abandon Astro.

For nearly three hours, she stayed beside him in the mud, holding his head up, comforting him, and trying to keep him calm while emergency crews desperately worked to free him.

Rescuers tried several methods before a veterinarian sedated Astro and a local farmer helped pull him out using a tractor and harness.

They managed to save him with only minutes to spare before the incoming tide made the situation even more dangerous.

The photographs captured Nicole exhausted and covered in mud, holding onto the horse she refused to leave behind.

Astro survived the ordeal, and the rescue became an unforgettable example of the bond between people and their animals.

A woman in New Zealand was sentenced to two months in jail after her dog became so overweight that he could barely walk. 💔🐶

The dog, named Nuggi, was discovered in Auckland in October 2021 weighing approximately 118 pounds (53.7 kg).

His condition was so severe that he had to stop THREE times just to catch his breath during a 10-meter walk from the property to a vehicle.

And when veterinarians examined him, they couldn’t even hear his heartbeat through a stethoscope because of the amount of fat surrounding his body.

According to New Zealand’s SPCA, Nuggi’s owner admitted to feeding him eight to ten pieces of chicken every day, on top of his regular dog biscuits.

After being rescued, Nuggi spent approximately two months receiving specialized care and managed to lose nearly 20 pounds.

Sadly, despite making progress, he died from internal bleeding caused by a ruptured mass on his liver. A post-mortem examination also revealed liver disease and Cushing’s disease.

In July 2024, his former owner was sentenced to two months in prison, ordered to pay NZ$1,222.15 in reparations, and banned from owning dogs for one year.

The case sparked an important conversation about pet neglect, showing that overfeeding an animal can be just as harmful as failing to provide enough food.

Researchers have observed intense fighting along territorial boundaries, with estimates suggesting that around 30 MILLION ants can die annually along one of these battlefronts.

The fighting stretches for miles, and scientists have compared the prolonged territorial conflict to human warfare, with rival groups repeatedly clashing over the same areas.

What’s even more interesting is that some of these rival colonies have maintained relatively stable boundaries despite the enormous number of casualties.

Argentine ants arrived in the United States in the late 1800s, meaning their territorial rivalries could have roots going back generations.
