In addition to core French influences Montreal’s unique flavors and dishes represent both the rich history of indneous aid (Maple, Spruce), French cooking and quality items (bakery, gorgeous cheeses), immigrant dishes like smoked meat sandwiches and bagels, and of course then the rich food scene of just amazing dishes and places everywhere. Montreal is French. Montreal’s flag also represents the core immigrant communities that made it. i can summarize the research I did of its history and culture as essentially a city that chose its culture over destruction and was in a position to only build upwards and adopt the many cultures that came to work in this rich port city. And you can feel that culture throughout in either the crazy amount of food options, the rich neighborhoods, or the art that is literally everywhere. Which is why most of the photos here are of the art embedded in every building- even the construction walls.

Mid June of 2026 during the James Beard award week in Chi. @indigehub hosted Indgihouse: House of Smoke & Ash speaker panel that explored the intersections of food sovereignty, regenerative infrastructure, and the future of Indigenous culinary economics.

I was lucky enough to attend and wanted to use my platform to share these voices and stories.

🥃Whisky + Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 10.24
I love whisky. And Scotland is the birthplace of it. You can bet I had about 20 books downloaded on whisky craft to binge on the flight.
While there are millions of distilleries each slightly differing the flavor by region (coming back for you islay) I was lucky to be close to Glengoyne. The most stunning fairytale distillery integrating its waterfall and slow double still process.

Food from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 10.24

A full separate post of various eats of Scotland and I’m mad at myself for not taking photos of all the amazing and regional/traditional things I had.
Not pictured is the obvious haggis which is amazing, or Cullen Skink which is a fish stew. Or halloumi cheese which every single place is into in downtown Glasgow. Like full meal deep fried cheese.

I hadn’t realized how big seafood or oysters were to the area and i definitely capitalized on that.
Also pictured is me fucking up tablet which is fudge that’s not to be mixed into coffee.
Note the irn bru soda (fucking huge).

Home of some truly amazing and terrifying shit.
- Tunnels underneath the city that were meant for storage but became homes (A ghost tour so scary I actually had to remove myself) 👻💀🪦
- Greyfriars Kirkyard - home to graves that inspired HP, some truly cursed ghosts, and the best little doggo - Bobby who watched over his owners grave. 🐶
- And of course, Edinburgh castle- home to a lot of royals. 👑 🏰 ⚔️

Less touristy than Edinburgh with a great music scene downtown vibes and all with coos in your backyard and the best whisky (not whiskey) bars in the world. One of the best places to travel as a female traveler if considering. But Greggs slaps. @greggs_official fun fact! 🪻the thistle is Scotland’s symbol known to represent resistance/protection/resilience.
