“As part of The Bekenstein Climate Leaders Program, I worked with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on corporate climate strategy and value chain decarbonization.

My project deliverables included authoring a 2030 Environmental Action Guide for the private sector, co-designing two Supply Chain Decarbonization Workshops for New York Climate Week, and developing a framework to embed decarbonization into regional procurement teams.

“I completed my bachelor’s degree in Forestry Science and joined the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Nepal, where I gained practical experience in community-based forest conservation, biodiversity monitoring, and database management.

Working within Nepal’s largest protected area, where forest ecosystems are managed alongside local communities and other natural resources, allowed me to apply my knowledge to real-world challenges in conservation and ecosystem management.

“I graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Qatar with a degree in International Economics. During my time there, I became deeply involved with the university's sustainability society, which significantly shaped my academic focus. Leading and collaborating on student-led environmental initiatives drove me to look beyond the classroom and research real-world climate issues. Specifically, I focused on extreme climate events in both Qatar and Pakistan, exploring how nature-based solutions could mitigate these recurring disasters in Pakistan.

After graduation, I returned to Pakistan to apply this knowledge on the ground. Working within the Climate and Energy Unit and the Biodiversity Practice Area at WWF-Pakistan, I conducted extensive field research. This hands-on experience allowed me to analyze complex water scarcity issues, urban climate challenges, and detailed biodiversity assessments. Experiencing these interconnected crises in the field reinforced that climate change cannot be solved by looking at sectors individually.

“As an intern at UNEP FI, the UN Environment Programme unit that works with the Financial Sector, I worked with the Climate Adaptation and Resilience team and the Social and Human Rights team.

I spent my summer in Geneva, which was a unique opportunity to understand from the inside how the high-level coordination work is carried out, challenges and opportunities. I also got to dive into the interests and motivations for the Financial Sector in the climate and social agenda. As part of my tasks, I developed many capacity building materials, which had the challenge of translating complex-technical information into simple-understandable insights.

My goal after YSE is to promote and advance Climate Resilience in Cities of the Global South, and this stage reaffirmed my conviction and also the importance -and specific strategies to - involving the financial sector to make this happen.” - Sol Reiman, MEM ‘27
