Congratulations to my daughter @chefdarayu for being the next @masterchefonfox champion. I’m so glad you have brought me on this journey the past 21 years. Everyone keeps telling me I did an amazing job and I don’t know what to say because it confounds me as to how I’m even related to you. Cherry season is here, and if you know me, you know cherries are my absolute favorite fruit... and cherry pie is my favorite pie 🍒🥧But pitting cherries one by one? No thank you.This little gadget has completely changed my cherry game. I can pit a whole bowl in minutes, which means more fresh cherries for snacking, baking, crisps, cobblers, and of course, cherry pie.I honestly can’t imagine making cherry pie without it anymore. I finally made it to Berkeley Bowl and now I understand the obsession.Bulk bins. Produce that I’d never seen before. A tea aisle that was a mile long. Mochi donuts. Matcha cheesecake. Everything so appealing and colorful! Thinking a lot about Elena and Dara’s dad George today. He was complex, intelligent , hard working , loved partying and an extremely talented architect. His work took us to live in Tokyo, Rome, and Vancouver. He was generous, taking his office of fifteen employees overseas yearly to celebrate accomplishments. He worked late hours on his projects never coming home before 8pm. Worked 10 days a week. As a family, the most time we spent together was when we lived in Rome for a year as he won the Canadian prix de Rome . We lived in a 3000 ft2 palazzo right in the middle of trastevere Rome. So many amazing memories. Elena went to Italian public school and I was very pregnant with Dara. He was driven and accomplished and represented the United States in 2004 at the Venice Architecture Biennale. We went back to Italy five times before Dara was five yo. I’m grateful for his opening the world to me, giving me my daughters and so I wish you a happy Father’s Day George. by @yu.can.cook

22 years ago I had a completely different creative life.After living in Tokyo for two years, I became fascinated with vintage kimonos. The silk, the patterns, the craftsmanship. Over time I collected more than 100 kimonos and obi.Instead of leaving them in boxes, I started transforming them into little girls’ dresses.These photos were taken at the Schindler Kings Road House for George’s 40th birthday, with my daughters and me wearing dresses I designed and sewed from vintage kimonos.Tomorrow George would have been 62.Looking back, I realize I’ve always loved the same thing, taking something traditional and giving it a new life.Back then it was silk.Now it’s food.#YuCanCook #Kimono #CreativeJourney #TokyoMemories #JapaneseTextiles by @yu.can.cook
