The power of community is not something to take lightly.

On September 2nd, people from different backgrounds came together in New York for Nepal and Tibet. We grieved together. We stood in silence together. We ran together for the affected Himalayan communities.

The recent flash floods took lives, displaced families, and destroyed homes and livelihoods. Thousands of miles away from home, it’s easy to feel helpless. But that night reminded us that showing up still matters.

Listening to people speak about what happened changed my perspective. Climate change is affecting real families and communities, many of whom have contributed so little to the problem but face some of its harshest consequences. We can’t bring back the lives lost, but we can keep speaking up and pushing for action.

Thank you to @nepalrunusa and @yubirunsnyc for giving me the space to help and listen, and to every running community that showed up.

Thank you to @himalayan_yak and their amazing staff for bringing everyone together after the run. The restaurant covered the food and preparation costs, raised $4,070 through the buffet, and added $930 to donate a total of $5,000, 5K for the 5K. ❤️

Talking with @tsomodasel didi stayed with me. Her words about climate change and our communities gave me goosebumps. She’s such a kind woman and a true leader in our Himalayan community in New York. I look up to her for all she does for our community, far beyond this event. I’m so glad I got to steal a little of her time, hear her perspective on the world, and get to know her better. I left feeling inspired to do more.

I’m also so grateful to @rasiladhikari , whom I met for the first time that night. He stood by my side to capture it all and did an amazing job putting this video together. I’m so glad we get to share what that night felt like.

And somehow after this night, I left with a deeper love for running.

Let’s keep showing up for each other in good times and hard ones. Let’s keep raising awareness, taking action, and showing the people in power what communities can do together. ❤️

Thank you, everyone, for showing up and standing together for Nepal. 🇳🇵
It was truly incredible and deeply moving to see so many people come together today for the flood relief run. Seeing our community unite for our homeland during such a difficult time was a beautiful reminder of how strong, compassionate, and resilient we are.

A huge thank you to @yubirunsnyc @nepalrunusa the entire @himalayan_yak team , and everyone who made this event possible. Thank you to all the runners, walkers, pacers, volunteers, and everyone who showed up with an open heart.

And to every single donor, thank you. Whether your contribution was big or small, every bit of support matters and goes toward helping our brothers and sisters back home.

Today reminded us that when we stand together, our community is incredibly powerful. Unity is our strength.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Nepal. JAI NEPAL 🇳🇵 🙏 by @yubirunsnyc

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, community members gathered in Jackson Heights, New York, for the Run/Walk for Nepal, beginning at 7:00 PM.

The event brought people together in solidarity with the communities affected by the devastating floods in Nepal. Participants walked and ran to raise awareness, show compassion, and support Nepal during this difficult time.

Following the Run/Walk, Himalayan Yak Restaurant provided a special buffet for $25 per person. According to the event organizers, 100% of the profits from the buffet will be donated to the Government of Nepal to support flood-relief and recovery efforts.
