Jingshan Hill, a man‑made mound piled up by the Ming- dynasty Emperor (Yongle) using excavation and former Yuan‑Dynasty palace rubble, served as a symbolic backdrop overlooking his newly‑constructed Forbidden City. How vain?... Ironically, decades later, when the Ming fell, his last imperial descendant, hanged himself on a tree at the foot of this rubble hill.
