See how German police handle protesters, male or female. If you break the law, enforcement shouldn't depend on your gender. That’s gender neutrality.

But in India, when a woman protester is detained, suddenly it becomes, “How can the police detain a woman?”

A woman can allegedly hit a male officer, push him or tear his uniform, but when police intervene, gender equality becomes the debate?

Equal rights, equal accountability. Or does gender equality apply only when it suits the narrative?

GENERAL CATEGORY PROTESTS: THE RESERVATION DEBATE RETURNS

The debate over India’s reservation system has moved back into public demonstrations, with protests reported in Delhi and mobilisation across social media.

On August 21, hundreds gathered at Jantar Mantar under the banner of Reservation Hatao Andolan, seeking changes to the existing reservation framework. Reported demands include greater emphasis on economic criteria, a review of reservation policies and reforms related to eligibility and implementation.

On August 23, around lpeople reportedly gathered at Connaught Place, where some protesters were detained, according to reports.

Delhi Police also clarified that no permission had been granted for a proposed August 23 gathering at Jantar Mantar and warned against circulating unverified posts.

The issue remains deeply contested, involving questions of social justice, historical disadvantage, economic inequality, merit and equal opportunity.

Whatever one's position, the renewed protests show that India's reservation debate remains politically and socially significant.

A ritual long associated with the ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar and Rishikesh is set to come to London this September, with a traditional Ganga Aarti planned on the banks of the River Thames. The unique cultural event will bring together Indian culture, music, food and community activities before culminating in the ceremonial evening aarti beside the river.

For centuries, devotees have gathered along the banks of the River Ganges at sunset to offer prayers through the aarti, marked by the lighting of lamps, chanting and devotional music. Now, the tradition will be recreated beside the Thames in what organisers describe as a symbolic meeting of two rivers that have shaped civilisations and carried the stories, cultures and beliefs of generations.

The event is being organised by Chinmaya Mission UK, a registered charity inspired by the teachings of Swami Chinmayananda, in collaboration with Totally Thames, a trust that promotes and celebrates the River Thames through arts programmes, heritage projects, environmental initiatives and community events.

The Ganga Aarti will take place at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, and will be open to everyone regardless of faith or background. The event is free to attend, though participation will be based on registration.

Activities will begin at 4 pm and include community stalls, Indian food, live music and dance performances, along with family-friendly attractions for children. The programme will gradually build towards the main attraction, with the Ganga Aarti scheduled to begin at 7:15 pm on the Royal Steps at sunset. Organisers said the ceremony will offer a moment of reflection, music and light beside the Thames.

The event will also follow environmentally responsible practices. Attendees will not be allowed to immerse flowers, idols or other ceremonial offerings in the Thames, with visitors encouraged to celebrate responsibly and help protect the historic river.

The event will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London.

Remembering the eternal hero of India's freedom struggle, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His fierce defiance against British colonial rule forever changed the course of Indian history. Give me blood and I shall give you freedom was not just a powerful slogan, it was the lifeblood of massive armed revolution. He united thousands of soldiers and civilians, even raising the pioneering all female Rani of Jhansi Regiment. Though the Taihoku incident in 1945 abruptly halted his active leadership, his grand vision ignited the historic Red Fort Trials, sparking nationwide uprisings that ultimately dismantled the British Empire. Today, we deeply honor his uncompromising patriotism, strategic genius, and enduring legacy. Explore his legendary path of fire in this exclusive cinematic historical documentary series. Let us remember him always.

BJP’s New Team

Big changes inside the BJP. 🇮🇳

On August 17, BJP president Nitin Nabin announced the party’s new national team, bringing a mix of experienced leaders and new faces into key organisational roles. The reshuffle includes 13 national vice-presidents and 8 national general secretaries.

Some of the biggest names include Vasundhara Raje and Ram Madhav as national vice-presidents, while Smriti Irani returns as a national general secretary. Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, while B.L. Santhosh continues as organisational national general secretary.

A major talking point is Amit Malviya losing the BJP IT Cell responsibility, with Deepak Mhaskey taking over as social media convener.

This isn’t just a list of appointments—it signals a significant organisational reset as the BJP prepares for the next political cycle.

What do you think about BJP’s new team?

Former women Naxal cadres from Bastar, who once lived with violence and weapons in the forests, have now stepped into a completely different life - walking the ramp in handloom and celebrating Bastar's culture.

The transformation is bigger than a fashion show.

Bastar was once one of India's most severely Naxal-affected regions. In 2026, the Centre officially declared India Naxal-free, with Bastar itself described by the Home Ministry as Naxal-free.

The government says surrendered cadres are being supported through rehabilitation, education and skill development, while new initiatives are focused on bringing development and livelihoods deeper into Bastar.

Even the Bastar Olympics has become a symbol of this transition - the government said more than 700 youths who had given up Naxalism participated in the 2025 edition.

From guns to handloom. From hiding in forests to owning the spotlight. From Naxalism to the mainstream.

This is what peace looks like when it creates a second chance.

Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have triggered cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides across several districts.

Rivers and nallahs are in spate, washing away bridges, roads and homes. Many areas remain cut off, making rescue and relief operations challenging.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts in multiple regions, warning of more intense rainfall.

NDRF, SDRF, local administration and volunteers are working around the clock to evacuate people, provide medical aid and restore connectivity.

While the immediate focus is on saving lives and helping those affected, experts stress that building resilient infrastructure and respecting mountain ecology are essential to reduce the impact of such disasters.

This is a reminder of the Himalayas' power and the urgent need for long-term, sustainable solutions.

For the first time in the history of India's Independence Day celebrations, Vande Mataram will be sung from the ramparts of Delhi's Red Fort on August 15, marking a major addition to the annual ceremony.

The historic rendition will take place as India celebrates its 80th Independence Day. Unlike the commonly heard shorter rendition, all six stanzas of Vande Mataram will form part of the ceremony, paying tribute to the national song and its role in India's freedom movement.

According to the Defence Ministry, Vande Mataram will be included in the official Red Fort programme for the first time. The song will be performed before the National Anthem during the celebrations, which will once again see the Prime Minister unfurl the Tricolour and address the nation from the historic fort.

The addition comes as India marks 150 years of Vande Mataram. Written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and first published in his novel Anandamath in 1882, the song later became one of the most powerful rallying cries of India's independence movement. The government has been holding programmes around the country to commemorate its 150-year legacy.

Earlier this year, the government also issued guidelines relating to the complete six-stanza rendition of the national song. Akashvani began broadcasting a new full version lasting around 3 minutes and 10 seconds from March 26.

This year's Independence Day invitations have also reportedly been designed around the Vande Mataram theme and carry the lyrics of all six stanzas, allowing attendees to participate in the rendition.

The August 15 ceremony will therefore mark a symbolic first: Vande Mataram, a song that echoed through India's freedom struggle, will finally echo from the Red Fort during the country's biggest annual celebration of independence
