Hello! Marhaba! أهلاً وسهلاً

Welcome to Yumma Candle Co. - bringing you scents inspired by my homeland: Palestine.

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but the last few years have been heartbreaking to say the least. Being from Gaza, with family still there, who have suffered tremendously 🙏 But sharing a bit of my culture brings me joy.

Yumma is slang for ‘Oh Mother’ in Arabic ❤️ by @yummacandleco

47th Annual Palestine Day! Growing up in the Bay Area, it’s so good being there with family, friends, reconnecting with people I haven’t seen in years, and meeting new ones ❤️🇵🇸🙏 by @yummacandleco

A proper introduction to my first scents, from my kitchen to you ❤️ celebrating the beautiful aromas of Palestine and the region:

Orange Blossom: that intoxicating smell when oranges bloom; fresh, floral and sweet. also found in many Levantine desserts 🍊

Rose Water: that sweet rose smell; my mom or grandma would splash it on their face as a quick refresher 🌹

Gaza Sea: a place my family has called home for centuries. thankful to have been to this splendid body of water, a place my dad and his family speak of fondly and where my dad would fish with his friends as a kid 🌊

Watermelon: a delicious fruit that’s also a symbol of resistance to Palestinians - when colonizers invaded, occupation soldiers would not allow the natives to fly the flag 🇵🇸 so images of this fruit popped up, containing the same colors 🍉

Arabic Coffee: a vivid smell that wafts though home everyday; coffee and cardamom ☕️

Church: frankincense and myrrh (bakhoor/بخور) a scent distinct to holy days in church and when my grandma would bless the home 🙏

New Scents! The breakfast edition: Inspired by a few snacks I grew up with 😋

Anise ينسون: that spice you may know from black licorice, Arak, Anise herbal tea, and ka’ak (the round anise cookies I love to dip in tea) ♨️

Baklawa بقلاوة: The popular dessert with many variations (more commonly spelled Baklava in the west, but there’s no V in Arabic.) My favorite is the walnut and cinnamon one for its warm, aromatic scent ✨

Za’atar زعتر: A delicious spice blend made up of herbs like thyme, oregano, toasted sesame seeds, sumac and salt. Great to dip with pita bread and olive oil. Common to have as a savory breakfast pastry, Manaeesh ☀️
