The idea that your internal world is reflected in your outer world was definitely true for me recently.

Maybe I used alcohol markers because I needed the alcohol...

But just as stormy as it was last week, this week was a lot sunnier. My boss also shared something that rocked my mind:

“Anger is the direct result of a person's inability to reconcile their desires with reality.”

Self awareness and expectation management. Letting go of the need for things to be a certain way. Accepting things as they are and having more awareness of the unconscious conditions that may or may not have something to do with it.

Of course there are caveats but hearing that made me question my reactions and experiences from the last week. I was grateful for the mindset shift because my attitude had been in the dumps!

So who else is letting go of the b/s and moving through the emotions to let your most authentic, brightest, weird selves shine?!

How many layers of verdant torment did it take to get to this shade?! Ended up being the same color I was originally trying to fix... 🙃

Painting is hard. Mixing colors is hard. But the way that the paint, water and brush dance together feels like balm to my soul ❤️‍🩹

Something about this felt peaceful… although with me, there's always an undercurrent of nerves lol.

Could it be an extension of biophilia? Can drawing plants digitally have a similar effect as looking at one live in person?

At times, I feel overstimulated by speed drawings so instead of maxxing another thing to filth, I tried to increase it just enough to wax and wane with the music.

There is some awkward pacing in the beginning but this has been sitting long enough in my drafts because Cerberus was rearing its performative heads with a ‘Thou shalt not pass until perfect!’

That perfectionism made it worse and worse… so I went back to an earlier version - where - if you can withstand a few speed bumps, the way the strokes line up with the piano is a bit magical. No neurotic orchestration, just pure synchronistic contentment.

Have you ever lost the ability to draw?

When your decluttering attempt turns into a kimchi squatting painting sesh with the canvas propped up on a shelf cubby 😅

I'm not much of a painter but looking at all the paints tucked away, I knew I needed to use them or toss them.

Recently came across an art therapist's post about how certain art mediums like oil pastels and paints can be particularly difficult for avoidant types - wondered if that was the challenge in the draw towards those materials but never getting around to picking them up. Maybe that's a layer of the fascination for artists that focus on their use.

Interesting how my main weapon of choice is markers.

Decided to lean into it instead of looking for another task to avoid what I was feeling. Felt like a long awaited return home by a prodigal child, except the door's still closed... but progress lol.

There's gotta be a better way to color??

I was never much of a color-in-the-lines kinda person but here I am now, coloring in the lines 🤷‍♀️

My pen still goes off-roading though and each time, my inner anxious chihuahua quakes 😅

Thank goodness for the lasso tool to trim off the adventure trails… Oops! Ring finger to 'L.' Crisis averted. Whew.
