Accordion Hinge Binding
I recently rediscovered this absolutely glorious binding for a commission.

The spring contrast spine, its ability to expand when you add photos, the locking in of the hinges. Just glorious!

The Ori Folder Book is seven years old and was the first online tutorial I ever made. I designed this version myself.

Back in 2017 I was contacted by a customer who sent me a photo of a book structure she had seen that she wanted a replica of. I only had a photo to go off and so made it up as I went along and this is the result.

I sent the book off in good faith and sent an invoice. Sadly I never got paid for that book (it was A4).

I should have asked for payment first but I was a baby bookbinder and hadn’t done a piece of work like this before. Anyway it turned out okay in the end. Hundreds of you have bought this tutorial and kit and I still love the book to this day. I still think about the lady who never paid me and got a book for free. I actually hope she’s okay.

These crepe paper flowers popped up in my memories from 2019. Way back when I was first playing with crepe. I cannot believe it’s taken me 8 years to come full circle back to them. What on earth was I thinking?! 🤣

These were all made in a workshop with @gatesheadartdiamonds

An Envelope Chain Stitch Book Tutorial is live in my bookbinding membership.

If you’re in the club, it’s ready to make now.

I show you how to turn envelopes into signatures, which are then stitched into a hardcover using a chain stitch. Phew! That was a lot to cover in a tutorial but I love this book so much! And I used a fancy map. Maps are cool.

I haven’t yet changed the pricing of the club. It’s still going up - I just got busy. So if you missed the saving you can still get it today.

My bookbinding club is hosted on Substack and every month I give you a bite size tutorial to try at home, using materials you probably have at home.

I show you a fun way to make signatures with envelopes which you can use as pockets to hold other things (like more books)

My version of the Turkish map fold book goes like this:

Make it in rainbow 🌈
Make an odd shaped cover
Have fun

That’s it basically.

I love origami for getting folk into Bookbinding. You make a few folds and you’ve basically got a book. Great to do with kids too. I can’t count how many of these I’ve made in schools and drop in community workshops.

I’ve put together three origami projects on one course + kit. Perfect for beginners.

Origami Maps!
Found, Folded, Framed.

You choose the location and I’ll find, fold and frame your map.

Pop into @hanjipaperie to choose your map (we hold hundreds in the shop), select a size (we do 4 sizes to suit any budget) and that’s it. I do everything else.

Take a peek at some commissions I’ve made over the last 13 years. Can’t believe I’ve been folding them for that long!

All maps include the framing.

It’s that time of year where I like to bring out the spookiest book I’ve made so far.

It’s a flag book with bats glued on. It’s so simple - but when you open it, it looks like bats are flying at your face! So creepy! Can you imagine sending this one to someone or putting it in your trick pile?

Let me know if you try it.

I used my @cricut_uk maker to cut all the bats out. I did not sit here and cut them out by hand.
