Elif Dinçer + Zac Burgenbauch - Wildflowers Off the Freeway [SEA-049]

Wildflowers Off the Freeway, the debut record from innovative harp + lap steel duo Elif Dinçer + Zac Burgenbauch, releases 9/25 on digital and cassette💫

@elifdincerr and @z.bach are a duo from Los Angeles who make Creative Music exploring the outer reaches of the harp and lap steel guitar. Drawing upon the traditions of free jazz, contemporary classical composition, free improvisation, and American folk music, Elif and Zac utilize a shared language and repertoire they have developed over years involving graphic scores, preparations, alternative tunings, open compositional structures, and reinterpreted original melodies.

Recorded during a live performance at the Lou Harrison House in Joshua Tree, Wildflowers Off the Freeway progresses through an unfamiliar world of raw sounds emerging from the natural tendencies of harp and lap steel guitar and evolves into a wide spectrum of colors, noise, abstract shapes, and broken lines. Wielding techniques like extreme de-tuned strings, language music, and phasing and various objects and preparations including bows, corks, and paintbrushes, they conjure bright illumination on high strings and low, primal murmurations within the unique acoustic environment of Harrison House.

📼Cassette pre-orders (limited to 50 copies) + preview track “Curtains of Sun-lit Rain” up now on @bandcamp

Elif Dinçer + Zac Burgenbauch - Wildflowers Off the Freeway [SEA-049]

// Elif and I recorded this album in May of 2025 as a live performance at the @lou_harrison_house in Joshua Tree, California - a truly cosmic room w/ unique acoustics //

// This recording captures our duo at a really interesting crossroads when we had been improvising together for the past couple of years and had just started to introduce a couple of compositions to the fold // Elif had been experimenting with tuning several strings waaay down to Ethiopian harp levels, and I was generally keeping the steel in C-F-G-Bb-C-D for sussed out, open manipulation. Both of us used a fair amount of bows, objects, and preparations //

// It features every note we played in the order it was performed that day, captured by @_ash.ing and mastered by @recitalprogram // Album art by Elif and Zac //

// The title comes from one of our first performances when we were driving back and forth to CalArts //

// Performed on harp and lap steel //

// Digital and tapes up on the Searching Bandcamp // Release show this Sunday at @reveriebooks // 🌻🌙 // by @z.bach
