The middle crown turned out nice. I got both small coves cut, and then spent a couple of hours hand-sanding the large center cove and doing final touches. Then, of course, one coat of Osmo clear satin.

It is slightly lighter in color compared to the rest of the cabinet, but hopefully, that evens out over time. This was a great learning experience. Every part of this build seems to challenge me to learn a new technique, and I feel that the skills I've learned on this part of the cabinet have set a strong foundation for the rest of the build to be successful. #mechanicalfurniture #thedavincicabinet #finefurnituremaking #artdeco #puzzlebox by @zaccassinger

I got the middle crown molding clamped up finally! I did a dry fit with clamps twice beforehand, so the glue-up went smoothly. I used my melamine vacuum press substrate as a workbench, which really helped keep it all flat. I got the clamping blocks idea from an informative article that Craig Thibodeau did on clamping miter joints. #gorillaglue #finefurnituremaking #artdeco #walnutcrown #thedavincicabinet by @zaccassinger

I got the parts for the mid crown molding roughed out and ready for cutting the cove. The poplar and walnut lamination worked out beautifully. A couple of the walnut boards were slightly bowed, but since I clamped them together in the vacuum press, they dried perfectly straight. by @zaccassinger

The first test version of my new puzzle box is officially finished! It took a lot more time than expected, but I am incredibly happy with how it turned out. Everything functions perfectly. I’m currently a bit undecided on the final name. Originally, I was going to call it the Porcupine Mini—mostly because of how it looks, but also because that’s what I named the Lego version I built many years ago. However, after finishing the build and navigating through the nearly 30-move maze myself, I feel like it deserves something better. I’ve been leaning toward The Hystrix Labyrinth, which combines the labyrinth and the Latin word for porcupine. #puzzlebox #mechanisms #titebond by @zaccassinger

All of the parts for the first puzzle box prototype are made and ready to assemble. Took way more time than I thought it would, but I'm very happy with how all the moves flow, and how the different clicks sound. I think it will be quite the enjoyable solve. #puzzlebox #mechanisms #prototypes by @zaccassinger

These are the final parts to be made for the new puzzle box. All of them are fake pegs scattered around the perimeter of the box, i have to make 126 of these.

Im thinking about changing the name of this puzzle box to the the labyrinth, but still undecided.

This stack is missing the other drawer at the moment. I still have a bit of work to do on the floor marquetry.

We finally hung the new shop doors. For years, we made do with plywood sheets on hinges. This week, we finally took the time to put them up.The trim isn't done yet, and it still needs a threshold, but it is a massive improvement over the plywood. The windows also let in a great deal of natural light, which changes the space entirely. by @zaccassinger

After 10 failed attempts, i finally got the main mechanism for the new puzzle box working. This is the hardest part of the puzzle box, so after I refine everything and get it attached to the drawer, then making the rest of the interior labyrinth should be alot quicker. by @zaccassinger

I normally dont like to ask for help on things, i prefer to figure it out myself, but im just not sure on this one. So I would appreciate some advice on the best method for making this cove crown for the cabinet. Most of my concern has to do with wood movement problems, but i might be over thinking that. by @zaccassinger

Got this mechanism for the cabinet working a couple of weeks ago. I originally wasn't going to show this drawer, mostly because its not that impressive or complex compared to the other one's like the right angle or pop out drawers, and its a very well known idea, so nothing special. But since its been so long since my last post on the cabinet, and due to the fact i won't have much progress to share for a while longer, i figured id go ahead and share it so you have something to watch. The coolest part to me is the rhombus parquetry pattern i added to the bottom of the drawer.
