Fall Creek 100 Miler 31 Hours, 106 Miles, 11,500ft Elevation Gain This day (or two) marked one of the best days of my life. Many people ask me why I ran 100 miles. My answer is simply because I wanted to learn from the race. I did it because I am blessed with the ability and opportunity to do so. Moderation is for cowards. This past year, I had an achilles injury, knee injury, and a month before the race, a hairline fracture in my foot. The countless hours, the blood, the sweat, and the tears throughout this past year made everything I worked for much more rewarding. You can call me crazy for doing this, but from the bottom of my heart, the lessons experienced through the process are some that cannot be taught. During the 31 hours I was running, I experienced some crazy shit. The race started at 23 degrees, freezing the water in my backpack for about the first 6 miles. I was in the middle of the mountains in Tennessee through the night, with a headlamp that gives you about 10 feet of visibility, hearing coyotes howling and animals moving nearby. This was not a race where you really see other runners out there, as only 13 people actually finished. Believe it or not, I had very few thoughts throughout this race and did not listen to one single song. I was prepared to leave my soul on this course. Everything felt great until mile 87. At mile 87, about 26 hours into the race, I stopped at an aid station to get nutrition. Starting back up, I couldn’t put any weight on my right leg. My knee felt like the bone was going to pop out at the next step. This is when I asked myself, “How bad do you want it?”. See more below. taken in Fall Creek Falls State Park by @zach.orris
