🧪 WIDAL TEST | TILE METHOD

A serological test used to detect antibodies against Salmonella O (somatic) and H (flagellar) antigens.

🔬 Quick procedure: 1️⃣ Place patient serum on the tile
2️⃣ Add the appropriate O & H antigens
3️⃣ Mix separately
4️⃣ Gently rotate and observe for agglutination

✅ Agglutination: Visible clumping → proceed to serial dilution/titration according to your SOP and kit instructions.

❌ No agglutination: No visible reaction at the tested dilution → report according to your laboratory SOP.

📌 O antibody: Usually associated with a more recent immune response.
📌 H antibody: May persist longer and can occur after previous infection or vaccination.

⚠️ Widal results should be interpreted together with clinical findings and appropriate laboratory guidance.

🧫 FECT | FORMOL-ETHER CONCENTRATION TECHNIQUE

A simple stool concentration method 🔬 used to improve the detection of intestinal parasites when they may be present in small numbers.

🧪 Quick steps: 1️⃣ Emulsify stool in formalin/saline
2️⃣ Filter to remove debris
3️⃣ Add ether or validated substitute
4️⃣ Centrifuge
5️⃣ Discard the upper layers carefully
6️⃣ Use the sediment to prepare a wet mount
7️⃣ Examine under 10× and 40×

🔎 Look for:
🪱 Helminth eggs
🦠 Protozoan cysts & oocysts

✅ Parasites seen? Identify and report the stage observed.
❌ None seen? Report according to your laboratory SOP.

⚠️ Always follow your laboratory SOP, PPE requirements, and chemical/centrifuge safety procedures.
