Short and sweet clip from songwriters night @devilsbackbonetavern — I started writing this trying to sort through all the loss I had this summer. In the digging this song out of my feelings its brought me nearer to my grief than I thought I could make it. It feels like breathing underwater in a dream.

I’ve been writing a ton and feel a sort of holy lightning when I find the thread of an idea. I can’t wait to share this season and all of its fruits with my people. Thanks for listening to my silly and sometimes sad songs. by @zachblue

I’ll be playing @gruenehall in the front room this Saturday. 11:00-1:00. Calling all my New Braunfels homies and loved ones just to give you an opportunity to put on your boots and have a lone star in the day time with me. This is your chance to indulge in some real Texas decadence.

I turned 21 in San Marcos and started up a band- no one could steer me right but mama tried. I’ll be turning 30 soon and I’d like to hope mama is proud of her guitar picking rebel child. Playing the hall was a huge milestone for me as a musician with @ryanrossband - I’m blessed to be back solo this time and playing in the cozy front room with you.

Add a day trip to Gruene to your Saturday schedule. I’m gonna sing my heart out and I look forward to picking and grinning for you all! taken in Gruene Hall by @zachblue

Free guitar lessons on YouTube now — link in bio!

I’ve been teaching guitar for the last five years out of my “Zach Shack” in New Braunfels. It’s been a great privilege teaching over a hundred different students and making real life long friends out of it.

At the start of June, I lost one of those dear friends and guitar students, Terry Dawson. It made me think of what I’m leaving behind if my time on earth was cut short. I miss Terry and wish I could have our lessons in person again. I miss my niece and nephews, I miss my childhood music buddies, I wish I had all the time in the world to talk about guitar with you…

Well in the way the internet makes time and space imaginary- I get to talk guitar with all of my people and loved ones whenever! The goal is that all of my guitar knowledge and the joy I have to share will be collected for you as a sort video journal on my channel.

My first three lessons are out now and include exercises and scale concepts that would help any beginner/intermediate guitar player start to feel creative playing their instrument. Guitar should be fun and creative- I hope with some of these ideas you can help to unlock the fret board and feel more musical.

I’m still teaching in person out of New Braunfels! If you’d like to book an in person or online lesson with me you can reach out to:

I hope I can teach you something fun 🎸 by @zachblue

My guitar thinks I’m a good listener. If you would also like to listen to my guitar, I’ve got great gigs this July for you to check out!

Starting with tonight —
7/3 @zelicks from 7:00-10:00
Come observe independence with me at a San Marcos favorite! Bring a friend and a song request.

7/4 @kennedystavernnb from 2:00-5:00
Kennedy’s Tavern in New Braunfels genuinely gets better every time I make my way back onto their stage. Come hang in the shade with me for the 4th of July afternoon!

7/10 @cowboysandcadillacsrooftop back again with @ryanrossband getting rowdy on the rooftop!

7/11 The Mason, TX Rodeo with Ryan Ross Band - just wholesome Texas fun. Ryan says he wants to ride a bull if anyone can pull some strings.

7/18 @drinklokalnb with @lukeleverettmusic for VillaPalooza 7:00-9:00 — a whole weekend of music at the villa to help raise money for the Drunken Poets Musicians’ Relief Fund. It’s for a great cause and The Villa is my favorite place to be in Gruene. I’ll be sharing a stage for the first time with the talented Luke Leverett. I hope you can make it out to support us! by @zachblue

Back where it all began- this Sunday! // 5:00-8:00

Zelicks is one of the finest watering holes in San Marcos. It’s where I paid a lot of my early troubadour dues back around 2018ish- stretching two hour sets with only an hour of material anybody would recognize.

I’ve made a few laps around the sun, added a song or two, and changed guitar strings + styles a couple times since. It’s always a good time to check in with my home base and see how far we’ve come.

Me and my sweaty guitar are back and more equipped than ever to celebrate the Sunday evening with some fine Zelicks folk. I hope you’ll come sing along! by @zachblue
