To be honest, I usually wouldn’t share personal things about my life like this, but I can’t ignore what God has brought me through.

About a week and a half to two weeks ago, I got really sick with really bad pharyngitis, my kidneys got really bad, and I lost about 20 pounds because I couldn’t eat, drink, or even swallow anything for a couple of days. I was on numerous IVs at the hospital and put on a lot of medications while I was there. This all happened right around the time I was elected SGA President, and I ended up being admitted to the ER less than a week after I won.

But even in that low place, God truly nurtured me back to life and carried me when I couldn’t carry myself.

I’m beyond grateful for my family, my friends, everyone who reached out and checked on me, and the doctors and nurses who were there for me during that time. I couldn’t even run or move like myself because my body was so weak, but now I’m back and about 98% recovered, and the crazy part is that now, lots of people couldn’t even tell I was that sick.

@nasapsli reminded me why student leaders must advocate for every student they represent, especially those whose voices often go unheard. Connecting with leaders from multiple HBCU's gave me new perspectives and reinforced that leadership starts with humility, listening, understanding the needs of your entire student body, and remembering that you were elected for a reason. Leadership is way bigger than titles. It’s about understanding the people you’re elected to serve. by @zachcoop5
