🥋 KNOW THE RULES — AGF

Understanding the rules doesn’t just help you compete—it helps keep everyone safe.

In this video, @brandonquick_agf demonstrates the important difference between a scissor-leg takedown and a Jonesy takedown.

The distinction matters:

🔹 Scissor-Leg Takedown: Illegal until the advanced belt levels or Pro Division under AGF rules.

🔹 Jonesy Takedown: Legal at all belt ranks and experience levels when performed correctly.

Why the difference? Safety.

The Jonesy variation provides a safer method of executing the takedown with less risk to your opponent’s knee. A scissor-leg takedown can be extremely effective when performed correctly, but competition is fast and unpredictable. You can’t always control how your opponent reacts, turns, or falls, which can increase the risk of injury.

As competitors, coaches, and referees, the more we understand the rules—and the reasoning behind them—the safer and better our matches become.

I hope this video helps clarify the difference between these two takedowns and keeps everyone educated on the @the_agf rules.

Guillotines are such a great tool to have in your arsenal! 🥋

This is a variation from the crucifix that I learned from Chance a while back, and it’s become one of my favorite attacks from this position.

I’m always in the lab working to improve my Jiu Jitsu. Sometimes that means learning something completely new, but other times it’s about sharpening the techniques I already know—better timing, cleaner setups, and smoother transitions.

You don’t always need more moves. Sometimes you just need to get better at the ones you already have.

🥋 FLOW ROLLING!

Not every round needs to be 100%.

Flow rolling is one of the best tools you can use to develop your Jiu Jitsu. Slowing things down gives you the opportunity to explore positions you might not normally find yourself in, work through unfamiliar situations, and focus on smooth transitions instead of simply trying to win every exchange.

Use these rounds to experiment, make mistakes, find new reactions, and connect positions together. The goal isn’t always to win the round—the goal is to leave the mat with better Jiu Jitsu than you had when you stepped on it.

Train hard when it’s time to train hard. Flow when it’s time to learn. Both have a purpose.

We’ve been working different guillotine attacks all month, and one of the biggest focuses has been creating dilemmas from the front headlock.

From this position, we can force our opponent to choose between defending the anaconda choke or dealing with the high-elbow guillotine. When they defend one attack, they can open the door for the other.

That’s what good Jiu Jitsu is about—staying on the attack, creating reactions, and using those reactions to find the finish.

Don’t just hunt for one submission. Create dilemmas, stay a step ahead, and keep opening gateways to the finish.
