Noise & Grain, a film photography exhibition celebrating Portland’s music community, opens at Franklin FOTO this Saturday evening at 5 PM! Don’t miss an in-gallery performance by Blair Borax to close out the reception (around 7:30), followed by an after-party next door at Havalina with sets by Amos Heart at 8:30 and Johnny Franco & His Real Brother Dom at 9:30. Large House Satisfaction rocked Club 251 with a sound that lies somewhere in the rock’n’ roll landscape between Nirvana and the Strokes and Interpol. They drew a large crowd of rowdy and clearly loyal fans.

I walked into this show a bit late but just in time to see Doxie’s instrumental math rock knock the socks off everyone in the Basement Bar in Tokyo. I’ve never seen a band have more fun onstage than these guys. (Apologies to their shredtastic guitar player that I wasn’t able to get a pic of him!)
