Baby Davis coming June 2024!

I am so excited for Bre and I to become parents! This new adventure is one that I am sure will be beautiful and challenging and exhausting and exhilarating.

Rwanda may be the most beautiful place on earth.

It has natural beauty that takes the breath away.

The restoration that has swept the country out of its despair and devastation is inspiring beyond words.

The people care more deeply than I feel I know how.

The animals are awe-inspiring.

The development happening brings such hope for the future.

The way we were greeted by strangers was like being welcomed home by family.

I don’t know what else to say. Rwanda is a place like no other. It inspired me and left me longing for a life of such deep community, such incredible capacity to forgive and restore, and such an overwhelming desire to serve and welcome the strangers in my life. taken in Kibali, Byumba, Rwanda by @zachsquatch42

Nobody needs to be reminded that it’s been a long year, but I know I needed to be reminded that sometimes right now needs to be seen not in relation to the mess around this moment, but in an often arduous effort to see the miracle that is life. Looking at all that’s wrong, I am tempted to take each possible moment as a reprieval, but that does nothing for me and nothing for anyone around me. I’m not minimizing the importance of rest. Instead I’m just hoping to better take advantage of the beauty around me and every opportunity to take part in that beauty.

If you’re still reading you should go listen to some Levi The Poet. “Correspondence: A Fiction” and “It’s all worth living for” have helped me process many a tough time in life. I recently started a new job.
I am working at Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center near Estes Park, CO. This mountain is directly outside my door, so naturally I had to climb it on my first day off, despite the fact that it was starting to snow quite a lot. I’m not sure if I’m more excited about the job or the proximity to mountains.

Somebody told me once that I was doing a good job of cultivating a mountain man image on social media. I felt like I had to diversify and trade in some mountain man vibes with some canyon man ones.
Glenn Canyon area is really cool. I stopped by for a few quick hikes on my way back from finishing up a 10 day Wilderness First Responder Certification Course in Flagstaff.

I don’t know man, two posts in two days? Here it is I guess. Anyway, on my way back to Denver (did you catch that subtle way of letting y’all know I’m back in Colorado?) I stopped at Arches National Park for a break from driving and did a hike I had already done, then I forgot my phone at the top and did it yet again that day. I know it’s a pretty hyped up place, but if you ever get the chance check it out (then head over to Canyonlands)

A couple weekends ago I got to visit my brother @tylerdavis6033 at Northern Michigan University. It was incredible to see how beautiful the place I’ve heard so much about really is and to get to hang out with him for a bit. I’m leaving Colorado soon.

“Ohh wow Zach, real creative. Another picture from the top of a mountain? Really stretching it with all the mountain pics. Like seriously you think you can get away with this? Who do you even think you are? Get outta here!” -probably you

But I hiked pikes peak yesterday and couldn’t stop laughing at the top. You could buy doughnuts. Doughnuts on top of a mountain are not your normal hiking experience. Honestly a beautiful hike though. And I highly recommend having @parmenterry tell you stories on the way down a mountain.

Mount of the Holy cross- 14,005 (that’s the tall pointy one across the way). @nmleach_7 was a great hiking partner for this 12.5 mile trip. Had to initiate bear avoidance techniques at 3:00 am after hearing one not too far away, but summited in time to watch the sunrise! taken in Mount of the Holy Cross by @zachsquatch42

The best way to explore a National Park is find out which trails have had the most rescues conducted on and then hike those trails. Had a great time exploring cayonlands National Park on the way to my home for the summer: @ghormleymeadow taken in Canyonlands National Park by @zachsquatch42
