Art has always been my native tongue when words failed me. But lately, even my sculptures seem to be stuttering. There is simply too much to feel, and my hands can’t quite keep pace with the weight of it all.

The photo reference for this sketch goes back to March 8, 1979 - the beginning of a protest in Iran that never stopped.

Dove le parole non sanno esprimere il dolore, bisogna affidarsi all’arte.

- Reposted from September 2022
It’s been three years since the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. I can still so clearly remember my last night in Tehran, just before my flight to Italy. My two friends and I were in the car when we accidentally (or maybe not so accidentally) passed the street where, the night before, they had killed a 19 year old boy.

Suddenly, we were trapped in the middle of a protest. The air filled with the blare of car horns. We watched as security forces jumped between the cars, guns in hand, shooting and shouting, trying to scatter the crowd.

Inside the car, no one said a word. The silence was absolute. I felt unbearably selfish, repeating to myself : In five hours, you’ll be at the airport. You’ll be gone. This will all be behind you.

The silence remained until we finally parked. It then broke into tears. When we got home, we never spoke about it, acting as if nothing had happened. But a revolution was unfolding outside, and maybe it still is. by @zahrabrt
