A different kind of Cape Town villa✨

Set above Simon’s Town, five minutes from the penguins ..ish.. 3 en-suite bedrooms, loads of space, private pool, incredible harbour views and, for Cape Town over peak season, really reasonably priced.

And somehow still available over Christmas & New Year 🥂

One for anyone wanting to be slightly outside the usual Cape Town bubble, but still close enough to everything.

The longer I live in South Africa, the more grateful I am that this country somehow became home.

Yes, it’s ridiculously beautiful. But it’s the people, the cultures and all the little things that have really made it home.

People say hello 👋🏾 Strangers actually talk to each other. Men are still gentlemen 🥹they open doors, pull out chairs, carry your bags, walk you to your car and make sure you get home safely.

You flash your hazards to say thank you when someone lets you pass. A red robot can somehow be a shop, a performance and a conversation before the light turns green.

And when things get serious, people show up. Fires, floods, someone simply needing help ♥️ communities come together and give whatever they can, often to complete strangers.

There’s a warmth here. A sense of humour. And the resilience… I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever met people more resilient than South Africans. Whatever life throws at them, they make a plan, keep going, help each other and somehow still manage to laugh along the way.

So many different cultures and histories, yet so many little things that just feel so South African.

This country has given me a home, a business, friendships, my big love, adventures and a life I never really planned for.

So today feels like a good day to simply say thank you to the country that welcomed me in. 🤍🙏🏾

20 years ago I was a foreign exchange student in McHenry, Illinois… and somehow came home with a second family. ❤️

12+ trips back, visits to Sweden, travels together and a whole lot of life in between.

Different countries, different cultures, completely different lives and paths but yet after 20 years, we’re still a strong team!
