Seven years ago today, I bought my first Sony camera. I didn't know anything about photography. Honestly, I didn't care that much either. It just happened to be on sale, and I was about to go on a trip. It's funny how things turn out.

Photography opened a world of creation for me, one that feels sacred. It brought me places I'd never have gone, carried me through hard moments, and gave me a language for things I never knew how to say.

Seven years in, and I still get lost in it.

Ravens. My last trip to the West wouldn’t have been the same without their company. I spent a lot of time observing them and came to appreciate their personalities, and just how intelligent, sharp, and silly they are.

They offered some incredible photography opportunities as well. Always nearby, always watching. Their presence brought mystery and depth to every single scene.

This might just be my favorite wildlife photograph so far. I had the intuition to trail this red squirrel through the woods along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, and it led me exactly where I needed to be - right as it paused to scratch its head on a branch. It's the kind of magical shot I've been dreaming to capture for a long time. taken in Canada by @zane.branger

Another year older, and as I like to do, I'm marking it with a birthday collection of animals I've photographed along the way.

It's still the same excitement and joy of learning every time I'm out shooting these portraits. Nothing else has felt quite like it. Never thought I'd find a path I'd feel so deeply committed to.

Going through last trip’s Japan catalog for inspiration, trying to figure out how I want this upcoming round of street photography to feel.

There’s something interesting about returning to a place I’ve already photographed. I know what caught my eye back then, but I also know I want to push myself further this time. I’m looking for something different - new techniques, new moments, and a fresh perspective on a place I already love.

Fushimi Inari's endless torii gates are famously packed, but the crowds thin out the higher you climb. The best ways I found to photograph it were going at dawn to catch the gates mostly empty, and returning at night, when lantern lights stripe the path and the strange sounds of the forest wrap the place in atmosphere. In those quiet hours, this might just be my favorite shrine in Japan.
