Hello,

I’m Zane, I grew up in Whitefish, MT. I’m a commercial and portrait photographer, traveler, skier, adventurer, and lover of life.

Meeting people and seeing places for the first time has become a bit of an addiction. It’s a habit I try not to break.

When brands hire me I make photographs for them and have had the chance to go on the most fun adventures for senior portraits.

I’ve shot photos professionally for a dozen plus brands and counting, my favorite joining backpacking trips during a summer in the Tetons.

Photography has been my dream job for as long as I can remember, even before I owned my first camera. In the early days of social media I’d look at adventure photographers and think to myself they have the coolest job on the planet. As soon as I started traveling on my own, I documented my journeys and have been hooked with this craft ever since.

I may be bias but Montana has something special. The harsh winter, the endless forests, and towering mountains are an endless source of inspiration.

Photography has allowed me to meet people who I would have never met. Some of whom have become my closest friends. It’s created a path for me that gets me up in the morning excited. That’s a feeling I hope never fades.

If you’re interested in working together, whether for portraits, branding, or something you’re dreaming up, you can explore my work and get in touch at zanesummit.com (linked in bio).

See you on the trail. by @zanesummit

I’m starting something new! A blog. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and it finally feels right. I’m throwing myself into this because I’ve always loved telling stories. This is for the stories too long for Instagram. You’ll find writing about my wildest travel adventures, favorite photographs, and things that inspire me. It would mean the world to me if you subscribed to my blog and shared this with others! You can find my blog on Substack through the link in my bio. Look out for new posts coming soon. Can’t wait to share more! by @zanesummit

Every skier knows there’s two seasons

Winter…

And waiting for winter.

It’s July, and while most people are biking or barbecuing, some of us are still dreaming.

Most call it delusional.

We call it dedication.

If you find yourself wandering through the woods in ski boots this summer, don’t worry. You’re not crazy. You’re just early.

Winter’s coming. You might as well be ready.

This is my first short film. It’s about a love for the mountains and the people who wait all year to return to them. Part II will be finished this winter.

I’ve been working on something for a while.

I love making photographs but there’s something different about being able to hold one in your hands.

This photo is one of those images that truly feels like art. The flowers, clouds, colors, I’m not sure what it is that touches me but it feels like a soft painting. Sometimes nature is the greatest artist of all. by @zanesummit

This project came at the exact time I was ready to pour my whole heart into something.

Last year I photographed Icelantic’s new Torrent collection for the 26/27 season.

These are the final assets @icelantic_skis selected to launch the collection.

To see friends, myself, my dad, and our community, and local mountain @skiwhitefish on such a beloved ski brands website feels surreal.

There’s something special about seeing images go from an idea in your head to becoming part of a brand’s final campaign and seeing them out in the world.

Endlessly grateful to Icelantic for trusting my vision on this one. Ski season could not come sooner.

One of the coolest feelings we as humans can experience, is to feel so small in a world so big. Mountains do that for me almost every time but Peru took it to another level.

When an image actually makes someone stop their endless scrolling to appreciate it, I’m genuinely so grateful.

In a world where trends/reels dominate social media, sometimes I feel like if I’m not posting immediately I can never keep up.

I want to give my work space to breathe.

The work I’ve put out this past year has been received beautifully and that means a lot to me.

These images are from the Sawtooth’s, a range I’ve always wanted to explore. @m.boveri and I took on a 5am start for a moonlit scramble, reaching the summit just before the sun crested the horizon. taken in Sawtooth Mountains by @zanesummit

I’ve come to describe Alaska as more Montana, Montana. Flying into Gustavus I got this feeling. A feeling of being somewhere so remote that very few people have the chance to experience it. That was before the boat ride to Chicagof Island, home to the highest density of bears in the world. Not only that but it was clam season which means the bears food source was on the beach where we’d be camping. And yet no bears. The students started to believe they weren’t real or that they were some mystical creature. We did however encounter eagles in numbers that made them feel like a common bird and more whales, otters, and sea lions than I could count. And the tides… 22ft the largest of the year. We carried kayaks over a football field length some days and the water would still creep up to our camp.

This was an adventure for the books. Stepping outside my comfort zone of backpacking and into a totally new type of travel.

Special thanks to Aaron and Al, my co-instructor team, for pushing me to be a better leader and all the great memories! by @zanesummit

Alaska - The Final Frontier

With National Parks requiring reservations a year in advance and battling against tourists for parking spots becoming the regular. Alaska felt like a whole new world entirely.

Of course, land must be protected. But millions of people wanting to see the same places comes with consequences.

There’s something sad about watching wild places slowly become more structured.

Alaska feels like one of the few wild places that remains largely untouched. by @zanesummit
