First of all, I love being from DC… because no matter how big this city may be, I’ve always found genuine community here!!

Want to thank @yaddiya & @1223potomacgallery for giving me the opportunity to present my piece in this show during #ArtAllNight. Opening night was great! Thank you to everyone who pulled up!!!

If you’ve been watching my stories over the past few months you may have seen me working on a few pieces… lol I wanted so badly to come up with some name for this collection that felt really deep & artsy, but I really feel like I was overthinking it… either way, these paintings are inspired by “The Nuances of Romance”, the spirit of doing the little things together, the feelings of anticipation. I have always said that Black Love is a revolutionary act, and I wanted to depict what that revolution looked like inside my imagination, from the perspective of someone peaking into the lives of two people who are caught in their own moment…

Featured in the @1223potomacgallery FreeDC exhibition during Miami Art Basel 2025

This marks the first time that one of my pieces was on display during Art Basel, which has been a goal for many years. However, what I’m most proud of with this painting is how I attempted to capture a time period that is long gone, but is still felt just as intensely. I listened to a lot of front porch concerts & old gogo on YouTube while working on this piece because i wanted to be taken back to my childhood, when MySpace was king, and we edited our photos with a dozen flares and stars on our ears like our jewelry was sparkling, when Solbiato was basically Gucci and all I wanted was a Hugo Boss polo to pop the collar on… these years have passed, but they still live vividly in my imagination, and that’s why this painting exists. by @zayytherapper
