No one could’ve guessed what Bruce was about to experience —especially him.

After a surgical accident, Bruce Reimer’s family was looking for a way to save the boy’s future.

That’s when they found John Money.

Psychologist at Johns Hopkins University, Money argued that gender identity could be shaped by creation, regardless of biological sex.

His proposal was radical.

Subject Bruce to medical procedures, raise him as a girl and hide from him the truth about his own birth.

For the parents, that seemed like a way out.

For Money, it was the opportunity to prove a theory that could consolidate his career.

Bruce got a new name.

Brenda.

For years, the case was presented to the world as a success.

But while John Money defended his version in articles and conferences, a child tried to survive the consequences of a decision he could never make.

The parents wanted to save their son.

And they trusted a man who needed to save his own theory.

@aboynamedbrendamovie is coming soon.

For the first time, the truth behind this story will be revealed in a movie.

A true story based on a lie.

A tragedy that started in the mind of a psychologist John Money.

In the late 60s, a charismatic psychologist called John Money was obsessed with proving that gender was not a biological matter, but a matter of environment, education and construction.

It was like this, with a little bit of theory and a lot of fame and prestige, that he convinced a desperate Canadian family to trust their 2-year-old son to one of the cruelest and most controversial experiments in all of history.

Money presents a radical solution: to secretly raise a boy as a girl.

"Dress a boy as a girl. Treat the boy as a girl. Make him think he is a girl, and that's it –he will be a girl."

A true story based on a lie.

Coming soon.

Following a botched circumcision, little Bruce Reimer had his life turned upside down.

His parents dreamed of giving him the most normal life possible. And a psychologist told them this dream could easily become real.

But only if they obeyed him and followed his steps to the tee.

The parents did that. Yet the dream never became truth.

Rather... it became a nightmare. For everybody. Specially for Bruce.

In 1965, in Canada, two identical twin brothers were born: Bruce and Brian Reimer.

At 8 months, Bruce suffered an accident during a circumcision that destroyed his penis.

Not knowing what to do, his parents sought help.

And they found John Money, one of the best-known sexuality researchers of the time.

Money saw in that case something he would hardly find again:

Two identical twin brothers.

One could be raised as a boy. And the other, like a girl.

Bruce went through new interventions. He got new (girl’s) clothes. A new identity. And a new name:

Brenda.

For years, John Money presented the case as a success.

But there was a problem: Brenda wasn’t Brenda.

At the age of 14, his parents finally told the truth.

Shortly after, he decided to return to live as a boy.

And he chose a new name for himself: David.

This story would only become known many years later.

Now, almost 60 years after the beginning of this story, it will finally be told in a movie. For the first time.

But perhaps the most unbelievable part of him is precisely this one:

It wasn’t a screenwriter who invented it. All this really happened.

A Boy Named Brenda: a true story based on a lie, is coming soon.

AI might make things easier, but it also makes things less authentic.

And when we decided to make a movie about the story of David Reimer, we couldn't risk sacrificing the truth. Even when producing it.

For so long was the truth about his story hidden. For so long was a blatant lie sold as a success.

Under an experiment ran by Dr. John Money, David (originally Bruce) would live a life as his life.

Bruce had suffered an accident during a botched circumcision. His parents, with the hope of giving him the most normal life possible, sougght out Money for help.

Money was a staunch defender of the idea that nurture was mightier than nature, and that, for example, a boy could become a girl, if guided properly.

He offered the Reimers the following proposal: raise Bruce as a girl, and never tell him the truth, while raising his brother Brian as a normal boy.

Bruce was given a new name: Brenda.

And his parents received an order: never, ever tell the truth.

For years, Money sold the case to the world as a success.

Behind that “success,” an entire family lived the consequences.

Now, this story finally gets a movie.

How would you feel if someone treated your life as a game?

Angry? Scared?

What if we told you there was a boy whose life was completely built on a lie, for the sake of one man's desire to be right?

White lies are innocent, and can sometimes be kind.

But if you stretch it just too far, you might get something no one even wanted.
