Big Red 2.0

I was lucky enough to jump on a trip of a lifetime heading to the Mentawais with my childhood mates @cobra_hss. With a last minute scramble to sort out a quiver before the trip, I knew I needed to take the trusty steed Big Red, a board I’d made 8 years ago and become comfortable riding over the years.

But after Easter swell a couple of months before the trip, surfing down the coast, I ended up snapping Big Red 1.0 for the third time, putting a nail in its coffin and making any repair to be too heavy for transit.
It was a unique board and not one that I could replace by buying one off the rack somewhere, so back to the old drawing board to do my best at making a replica. This time with a quad option as well as the single fin box. Marcus @weaponsurfboards the absolute lord allowed me to use his space to shape Big Red 2.0 and did an epic job glassing it.

Day 1 in Indonesia with the lads we surfed solid Ulus, my leg rope snapped and Big Red 2.0 washed into the rocks. I was lucky to find it but it looked like it had been shredded by a tiger! Luckily, I was able to convince the local lads to patch her up and add some extra glass to a suss looking crunch/crease on the bottom. The next day we’re off to the Ments to spend 11 odd days on the mighty Bintang @bintangsurfcharters. What a vessel!

First half was a fishing tour and the second half was a tube fest with the lads! Such an amazing experience seeing your friends get barrel after barrel. Insane!
By the end of the boat trip Big Red 2.0 had gone through the wringer again with a couple of broken fin boxes which again got fixed up in Bali upon our return.
I then left the lads and headed to G-Land, a spot on the edge of the Javan jungle that I’d been yearning to visit after learning its rich history in surf exploration and other folklore as well as it being a world class left hander. A place I’ll definitely head back to! @maxzappas @donnylopez949 @dnd_glandsurfvideo by @zdur_
