It feels really good to give less fucks.

I filmed this a while back during Covid and am almost finished with the final piece. My goal was to have no pre-conceived vision and encourage my spontaneous self expression.

I rented a studio which had no heat - I was freezing my ass off (hence the jumping jacks). It made for a better painting, though, because I had to generate a lot of heat in order to burn off what felt like a flood within me (and in the world). It felt like a metaphor for the pandemic, almost nothing was going the way we wanted but we just had to keep moving.

The painting is called “The Shadow Self” which is a nod to Carl Jung. In many ways, Donald Trump represents America’s shadow self - a manifestation of the greediest and most ignorant aspects of U.S. culture. We are in an intense era of transformation, and our evolution requires us to acknowledge our dark and disturbing past while taking accountability for the oppression we sponsor and profit from.

For change to happen on the macro, we all have to change in the micro. Internally, over the past five years I’ve been working on a lot of unlearning and recognizing the darker parts of myself and how they came to be.

I’m excited to share the final abstract painting. Out of the shadow, arises a bright and ferocious force. Creating this piece is a part of my shedding and the beginnings of my emergence. Hopefully, as a society we will soon enter THE LIGHT AGES as well.

Thank you for watching and reading. ❤️

Chain of Fools was originally recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1967. The song was written by Don Covay and was supposed to be given to Otis Redding before Aretha was chosen as the singer. This remix is by @therealmikedunn and Gershwin Jackson mixed with Give It Up by @themba and The Good Men.

What a truly beautiful day in Washington Square Park ☺️, one of my happy places. An intention of mine is to show my art to the world and it truly felt like the world walked by on Saturday. I got prayed on, peed on, and serenaded (by @go_alan_go_ 😘). The people I interacted with truly restored my faith in humanity and reminded me of how much light there is all around us.

Thank you to @nobeimedia for these beautiful photos! What a beautiful soul you are. I’m excited for your journey in NYC.

Thank you to @mol.ten for taking such an interest in this piece!

Thank you to the young women who prayed for me, truly almost brought me to tears. 🥹
