In an age of algorithms, and playing it safe, The Nervous Atmosphere was a reminder of the reward that comes from embracing the unknown.

The Nervous Atmosphere attempts to take audiences inside the experience of being struck by lightning, a phenomenon so rare and extraordinary that it resists explanation.
Perhaps that's the point. Some experiences can never be fully described, only felt.

I wanted to capture that first moment of practice, before everything came together. There’s something really special about watching an artist connect with their instrument — that quiet moment where the musician, the instrument and the music almost become one.

Stay after the performance on Thursday 13 August for a special post-show artist talk with Zoë Barry, creator and performer of The Nervous Atmosphere.

Following the performance, Zoë will be joined for an audience Q&A. Discover how three real-life brushes with lightning grew into this electrifying piece of theatre, and what it took to bring the storm to life on stage. The artist talk will begin shortly after the performance concludes and will run for approximately 20 minutes. Included with your Thursday performance ticket.

Thank you for helping us sell out the Australian premiere of our new work Smoke Between Mountains earlier this month at the Immigration Museum!

We are still taking this in: a standing ovation at the Sydney Opera House, and a stellar 4.5-star review for Water Song.

There is something deeply moving about sharing this work at the Sydney Opera House — hearing it held so generously by audiences, and feeling its world of water, voice, and breath unfold in the space. It is also profoundly meaningful to witness cultures and musical traditions meeting here, intertwining and diverging like currents, shaped by water as both material and memory.

To everyone who listened, watched, and travelled with us inside this work: thank you. We were deeply touched by audience members who came to us in tears, sharing personal stories of water — memories, grief, joy, and connection that surfaced through the performance.
