If you don’t know the work of Erika Weitz, now you do. Artist. Photographer. Alchemist. Legend. To think that when you look at the album artwork for CONVEYOR, you’re looking at a physical object is hard to compute. It looks and feels both like an ancient artifact and something transported back from the future. She is one of my favorite artists on this planet and I’m eternally grateful to her for conjuring the perfect artwork for CONVEYOR. The two new pieces at @artbasel are Technical Image 6 + Technical Image 7 They are a part of an ongoing collaboration between myself and @reas Casey Reas. Reas is a pioneer in computer programming, co-founding Processing which has redefined how artists engage with code. Together we have been exploring the conversation around how GANs, code, and machine learning relate to the history of analog photography by challenging the boundaries of synthetic and organic data.

This is Wet Plate Collodion photography. It’s a process thats from the 1850s. It’s made all in the darkroom and time + light + chemistry have to be in perfect alignment for an image to appear. by @zeitweitz
