My daughter is three years old and has no birth certificate.

When we chose not to register her birth, we were reported to the local authorities.

The registrar wrote to me demanding registration. I wrote back asking questions about birth registration, legal identity, consent and the authority behind that obligation.

Instead of answers to those specific questions, I received a formal order requiring registration by a deadline.

I questioned it again. That was three years ago, and I've heard nothing since.

That silence doesn't establish that the legal obligation disappeared. But it left the questions I raised unanswered.

For me, this has always been about something much bigger than paperwork: who gets to make decisions about our children's identities, rights and futures?

How much of your working life actually belongs to you?

Income tax. National Insurance. VAT. Council tax. Fuel duty. Taxes on money earned, spent, saved and passed on.

Most people never stop to calculate their total lifetime tax burden — or question how much of their labour ultimately goes towards funding the state.

But there's a deeper question here, beyond the percentages.

Where does taxation end and individual freedom begin?

What gives the government authority to compel payment, and what lawful options exist for someone who questions that authority?

The relationship between taxation, consent, property rights and personal sovereignty deserves far more discussion.

Since when did questioning authority become something to be afraid of?

Most people pay tax their entire working lives without ever questioning the legal foundations of that obligation.

But what happens when you start asking questions about legal identity, statutory obligations, consent and the relationship between a living individual and the state?

There’s a distinction between questioning how the law applies to you and assuming it doesn't apply at all. And understanding that distinction matters.

I'm not telling anyone to stop paying tax. I'm encouraging people to examine the legal framework, understand their rights and ask questions rather than simply accepting what they've always been told.

Because questioning the law and breaking the law are not the same thing.

I asked the government to prove their authority is legitimate. Not because I'm angry. Not because I want chaos. But because I stopped one day and realised I had never actually asked. And neither had you. We fund wars we didn't vote for. We watch our food supply get filled with things that wouldn't pass scrutiny if we added them to our children's meals ourselves. We drink water treated with substances we'd never choose. We send our children into systems designed to produce obedient workers rather than free thinkers. We're told what we may and may not inject into our own bodies. We watch the land we live on become less affordable with every generation. We pay at birth and at death and at every point in between. We are surveilled, licensed, taxed, registered, and managed from the moment we arrive to the moment we leave. And we do all of it without ever being shown the document that proves any of it was agreed to. Not by us. Not with our genuine, informed consent. I'm not refusing any of this because I disagree with how the money is spent. Although I do. But I’m actually focused on asking a more fundamental question. Was the authority that demands all of this ever lawfully established? Did anyone ever actually ask us? Because I looked. And I couldn't find the answer. So I decided to ask them directly. Across many departments, through many different cases. Follow to find out more about what happened. by @zen_jungle

Bailiffs turned up at my home over an unpaid parking ticket. They left empty-handed.

But that’s not why I’m sharing this.

We’ve been conditioned to feel ashamed when enforcement comes knocking. To assume that because someone in authority demands something, compliance must be the right thing to do.

I’ve asked for lawful proof of the obligation being enforced. I’m still questioning the response, and the process is ongoing.

Because for me, this goes far beyond a parking ticket. It’s about government authority, lawful obligations, individual rights and our willingness to question the system.

The bailiffs came. They took nothing. They left. That doesn't mean it's over.

But I refuse to believe that asking questions is something to be ashamed of.

If you’re thinking about raising children outside the system, there are conversations you need to have before the baby arrives.

Registration. Birth. Healthcare. Education. And perhaps the most overlooked one: who actually carries the load of the life you’re creating?

It’s not enough to vaguely agree that you want to do things differently. When the difficult moments come, you need to understand each other’s boundaries, responsibilities and non-negotiables.

Have the uncomfortable conversations now — otherwise you’ll still have them, just at the worst possible moment.

Nearly kept this one to myself as didn't want to make the airport queues longer and have to wait, but I'd be doing a disservice not to share 🧡 by @zen_jungle

Whatever new information comes out about the Covid vaccine, the decision you made back then has already been made.

So what are you going to do now?

If you took it and you’re worried, focus on your health. If you didn’t and you feel vindicated, don’t waste your energy proving you were right.

Put that energy into your family, your health, your food, your relationships, your independence and building a life where your choices genuinely belong to you.

The world can keep arguing about Covid.

Our bed is 3.3 metres wide. Because there are three of us in it — including our three-year-old.

She has never spent a night without me beside her. No crying it out. No bedtime battles. If she wakes, I’m already there: a cuddle, a few words, and usually we’re both back asleep within minutes.

For our family, co-sleeping has been one of the most natural parts of parenting. We all have space, we all sleep comfortably, and every morning she wakes up beside the people who love her most.

And yes… the bed basically takes up the entire room. 😂 But what else is a bedroom for?

Do you co-sleep with your children? I’d love to hear how it’s been for you. by @zen_jungle

What if the world isn't nearly as divided, dangerous or hopeless as the news makes you believe?
Think about the people you actually meet. The conversations, the kindness, the unexpected connections. How often does your experience of humanity reflect what you see on the news?

The media doesn't show you the whole world. It selects which parts of it you see. And fear, conflict and outrage keep people watching.

Here's an experiment: turn off the news for 30 days. Get outside. Meet people. Have conversations. Experience the world firsthand.

You might discover that the world is a much more beautiful place than you've been led to believe. by @zen_jungle

I gave birth at home. No doctors, no midwives, no drugs. And it was NOTHING like the blissful birth I'd imagined.

It was long, intense, primal and the most powerful experience of my life.

But it taught me something I'll never forget: birth doesn't have to be blissful to be perfect.

My daughter was born here, on our land, on our terms. And that experience shaped everything that followed, including our decision not to register her birth.

I believe every woman deserves genuine autonomy over her birth, with the information, support and medical care she needs to make that choice safely.
