When @leighannparente, @sashaegolf and I became season ticket holders for the @valkyries this year we knew 2 things:
1. We'd be bringing our knitting to every game and
2. We were going to knit something to rep our favorite team
We loved the look of the #courtsidevest by @rysasewsclothes so we set out to make our own version.

The pattern was easy to follow but light on details. If we had been happy with a mesh vest in Valks colors, it would have been totally fine, but we wanted colorwork! Logos! Numbers! The whole shebang! It took some time to figure all that out but tbh I spent more time freaking out about intarsia than actually knitting this whole thing in its totality lol

I ended up using intarsia for the number in the back, stranded colorwork for the logo and BALLHALLA and duplicate stitch for the white outline around the number

I got to wear it to our home game on Aug. 12 which also happened to be @valkyriesvi's 1st Birthday!! Lucky me, I even got a picture with the birthday girl herself!! And the day before, we got to show our completed vests to @ceciznd 💜💜

A super special project for a super special friend. When my work bestie @natashaazevedo told me she was leaving our company, it took me all of 5 minutes to figure out exactly what my goodbye gift would be.

Months ago she had asked if I could knit her a cardigan. At first I was like 😳 because a whole ass cardigan would take me months to knit! But then I remembered that bulky yarn exists so we made a deal: she'd buy the yarn and I'd knit it for her. I showed her some options from the @weareknitters website and we settled on the #frescocardigan. Then we promptly forgot and never got the yarn. Well, fast forward to her announcement and I was like "let's do this."

I ordered the yarn and it came with less than a week to go before her last day in the office. I realized I didn't have the right size needles but the beauty of having a knitting group is that 10/10 times, someone will lend me some. @leighannparente came to the rescue and I was off to the races. I asked Natasha for a few measurements, based on which I was able to reverse engineer the rest.

In all honesty, this took remarkably little time to come together. After casting on Saturday evening, I had the back and front panels seamed and one of the sleeves started by the time I went to bed on Sunday. I finished the sleeves on Monday and then all I had to do was the button band and weaving ends on Tuesday.

All in all this was an extremely satisfying project, not just because it was super fun to figure it out myself based on a handful of measurements, but because it's now in the closet of a dear and extremely knit-worthy friend.

🧶 Pattern: my own based on We Are Knitters' #frescocardigan. Back and front panels were knit separately and seamed together using grafting for the shoulders and mattress stitch for the sides. Sleeves were picked up and knit in the round.
🧶 Yarn: We Are Knitters' The Wool in Yarnicorn (~5.25 skeins)
🧶 Needles: US size 19 (15mm) circulars
🧶 Size: ~ XL (see measurements pic) by @zerochillcrafts

Trying to get back into a regular posting schedule and had to kick off with some projects I've finished this year!

First off is the Diaphanous Raglan, which I got to make as a shop sample! Britt from @lovefestfibers took a chance on me and gave me the most beautiful merino and mohair yarns to play with. The fit is also a dream and it was a really fun make!

🧶 Pattern: Diaphanous Raglan by @jessssiemae
🧶 Yarn: @shangdrok HT Merino in The Truman Show and Superkid Mohair Silk in The Chrysanthemum and the Sword, from @lovefestfibers in San Francisco, CA
🧶 Needles: US size 6 needles for body, size 3 for ribbing
🧶 Size: 2XL (56" bust, including 4" of ease) with bishop sleeves and waist decreases

I've been quiet on Instagram (I'm more of a lurker than a poster anyway) but my needles have been anything but! After finally finishing the Funfetti Raglan, I felt emboldened to take on this UFO from October 2020 and finally make myself a Christmas sweater! I'm so proud of it so please bear with me as I tell you the story of how this came to be!
❄️
Back in the early days of pandemic lockdown, with nothing but time and 15 @weareknitters kits in underbed bins, I got back into knitting. After blitzing through a few projects, I felt confident enough to tackle color work (haha, you fool!). I bought the yarn and created my own chart on google sheets based on a cushion pattern also from we are knitters. (slide 5.) At that time the only sweaters I'd knit were done flat and then seamed so that's what I set out to do.
❄️
I quickly realized that color work and purling were not mixing well. My tension was all over the place and the floats were so long you could practically hang your washing on them lol (slide 9 🫣). With the vigor of youth, I actually ended up frogging the front AND back panels (I'm nothing if not committed) TWICE before it finally dawned on me that I might be a tad out of my depth.
 ❄️
And that's how that WIP became a UFO and languished on hold until 2024, where thanks to the Funfetti Raglan, my Monday knitting group and ~2,500 knitting tip videos on IG, I felt bold enough to tackle it again.
❄️
The project evolved and it became a raglan (no more flat color work thank you very much). I clobbered together a few patterns, my own ideas and, you guessed it, more google sheets mathing (slides 6&7) to come up with this design. And as happy as I am with the front, I'm even more proud of the back (slide 8) and how cutesy and demure those floats look now. Massive thanks to @life_is_cozy who figured out and helped me knit the short rows in the back!

❄️Yarn: the petite wool from @weareknitters in Red (6 skeins) and White (1 skein)
❄️Pattern: modified the @weareknitters snowflake cushion for color work chart and a little bit of everything for the raglan
❄️Needles: size 10 (6.5mm) for neck, cuffs and ribbing. Size 11(8mm) for body
❄️Size: ~2XL (54" bust) by @zerochillcrafts

My very first socks are finally complete! It all started with finding a skein of @woolandworks' Sock yarn in Barbie Dreamhouse at @firebirdyarns during the @bayareayarncrawl in March. The colors were just too good to pass up, so I instantly decided to learn to make socks. I took a class at @theroyalbeeyarncompany and it gave me the confidence to tackle the @tincanknits #ryesocks.

Next up? I'm planning on making a set of #connectionssocks! by @zerochillcrafts

Photo dump time! I thought it would be fun to post the 2020 projects that kept me sane and kicked my current knitting obsession into high gear! After learning to knit in 2016, my interests wandered around but I kept collecting @weareknitters
kits! Finally, during the 2020 shutdown I went back and got all of these done!

1. WAK Kinesis Sweater in the petite wool
2. WAK Dill Tee in pima cotton
3. WAK Simone Cardigan in the wool
4. WAK Signage Sweater in the petite wool
5. WAK Marpha Sweater in the petite wool

Thanks to these kits I learned a ton of skills including moss stitch, picking up stitches, seaming, intarsia and more!
