There’s something undeniably magical about watching the sky slowly fill with giant balloons. 🎈✨

It’s crazy to think this all started back in 1979. Local balloon-maker Don Cameron and a few friends decided to get together at Ashton Court Estate with just 27 balloons. They just wanted to share their love of flight. I doubt they ever imagined their little weekend meetup would turn into Europe’s largest annual hot air balloon festival.

Over four decades later, that same magic is still in the air. From their mass ascent at 6 AM in crisp chill breeze to balloons lighting up the dark like massive lanterns during the Night Glow, it’s a beautiful sight through and through. 😊

Legend has it that, in 1209, a group of scholars fled Oxford in the dead of night after a deadly dispute with the townspeople. They sought refuge in a quiet, foggy fenland town and decided to build their own university. They never left.

Today, walking through these cobblestone alleys feels less like being in the 21st century and more like wandering the ancient, echoing corridors of of a haunted mynster. Every gothic spire, ivy-draped window, and iron gate feels heavily guarded by centuries of secrets.

The history here is as eccentric as it is brilliant. If you walk past the gates of Trinity College, you can find a direct descendant of the exact apple tree that dropped its fruit on Sir Isaac Newton, sparking his theory of gravity. But brilliance here also comes with rebellious streaks. During his time at that very same college, the poet Lord Byron famously kept a tame bear in his dorm room. The university's strict rules expressly forbade students from bringing dogs, but they forgot to mention bears.

Between the soaring stained glass of King's College Chapel and the scent of aging parchment in the libraries, there is a distinct, almost witchy magic in the air. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to wrap up in a heavy wool coat, grab a worn leather book, and get completely lost.

221B Baker Street: the most famous address in London, the home of consulting detective Sherlock Holmes.

Fun fact, when Sherlock stories were written in the late 19th century by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Baker Street didn't have a number 221. However, the enduring popularity of Holmes led to assigning the address 221B to the Abbey National Building Society when Baker Street's numbering was re-organized in the 1930s.

Today, the Sherlock Holmes Museum ( @thesherlockholmesmuseum ) is located at the address, that faithfully recreates the Victorian-era living quarters of Holmes and his companion, Dr. John Watson, just as they were described in the stories. It's a pilgrimage site for fans from all over the world, allowing them to step into the world of the world's most famous consulting detective.
