In the girls’ changing room at high school, I listened around me as one by one, my peers spoke complimenting each other, saying they could model one day - then, accidentally or not, they left me out. We were teenagers, but I already felt so invisible at that school, and along with a lot of difficulties going on at home, that lack of inclusion in a conversation about being “pretty enough to model” really hurt me.

I struggled a lot with my appearance as a teenager. I was so tired, fatigued, and mentally overworked. I looked in the mirror and hated how depressed I looked. I thought I was doing something wrong, so I blamed my internal instead of looking to the external environments. And it’s taken over a decade, but now I look in the mirror and realise I was always beautiful, in many ways.

So I just wanted to share this story…last week I modelled. With zero experience. On a runway! 😱💖

p.s. We all know - modelling focuses SO much on the exterior. I personally only love the model agencies, designers and opportunities that showcase bodies, ethnicities and cultures of all kinds.

Please never compare yourself to mine or anyone else’s social media pictures! I also wake up with spots and eye bags and blemishes that make me want to hide from the rest of my day. I just choose to not post them.

We’re allowed to notice our “imperfections” and feel it, allow it, understand why our brain feels that way (often media stereotypes or social conditioning), and release without rumination…with the knowledge that we are already so valuable, precious, and beautiful.
