what was supposed to be a return to dance after a long break ended on a much sadder note

It was my first time attending @udwindia , a dance camp that i had only heard stories about before. The best of best dancers from around the world were to share their teachings & love for this art form. On day 2, i injured my knee while learning a choreography and that’s it; I couldn’t bend my knees after that and needed help to even sit or get up. (I realise that this comes across as dramatic because i didn’t break my leg or anything 😂) But i still have to wear a knee brace and continue physiotherapy for a while. Which means, no dancing.

The point being: this entire experience led me to do a lot of thinking. What hurts me is the constant hurdles i have had to leap over while getting back to dancing, every single time. Whether it is feeling out of place because I’ve been away from this space, or a lack of confidence that my talent is good enough, i can assure you that i have faced it all. Yet, the passion I hold to express myself through movement isn’t something i can put into words.

I do believe that a lot of us have it harder than the rest, which is why it’s no easy task to come back despite all the road blocks. I wanted to be a true dance creator and i started my journey way before majority of the people out there; way before reels, IGTV, or even proper dance videos on Instagram started becoming a thing. But, maybe I’m just not meant for it?

I have spent so much of my life just surviving one thing after another and have never had a concrete answer to “Arya, why did you stop posting?” “We don’t see you at classes anymore” because how could i ever tell them about the pain i was facing?
Nevertheless, the only thing that has kept me going is the hope that one day, I will feel enough; whether i post videos or not, whether i gain a million followers or not. And that finally, life will be kinder to me.
