ZingaraTerry Atelier ~ A Symphony of Possibilities… I’ve been collecting these textiles for over a decade— one towel, one colorway, one impossible-to-find piece at a time. Finding enough of the same archival terrycloth to create a matching set can take years. Each piece is then restored, matched, cut and tailored one at a time. How wonderful to be featured in @tmagazine again! This time was especially super awesome. When I received an email from Jameson, he opened with telling me about this new column where readers submit items they were hunting for but couldn’t track down. Right away my heart started pounding. When he went on and said a robe was the subject, I kind of already knew that I most likely had it or something like it in my archives, and I was right * This is a really awesome column and submissions are open for new hints for rare treasures* There’s something extra exciting about hunting. Wanting something you know is rare but you want it so badly…you persist. I understand this because for over a decade, I’ve been hunting towels. And now, I’ve amassed an extraordinary archive of vintage towels and terry cloth garments. Hunting, cleaning, restoring, redesigning, tailoring. This work is beyond upcycling. It’s my art. Well, one of them. After the years long process from hunt to restored, there’s the pairing. It can take years to match two towels to create a jacket or pair of pants. And even longer for coats & kaftans. All of Zingara’s pieces are made from vintage terry towels. Each piece completely unique and tailored to the highest degree to create a garment that is designed to last lifetimes and to accompany one on their greatest adventures. From lounging, to the sea, to the city, to the mountains. Aprés everything. While everything. Completely sustainable, and made with the upmost care. You haven’t seen a lot of me this past summer… There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes in ZingaraLand. I took a step back, spent time with family and in nature and for the first time in a spell, really put my personal life first. All the while, toiling in my studio, working on restorations, designing new collections and finishing up customs. Tune in to Zingara LIVE , Wednesday September 23rd to catch up, shop the newest collection and to view new towel collections to turn into your next custom. This is my favorite time of year. We call it Second Summer here on the beach in Rockaway. Last licks of summer, easy sunshine all day. Cozy layering in the evenings and mornings. Contemplating Halloween costumes & Holliday plans. After an expected long weekend back home on Long Island for an important family thing,. I decided to have some work done on my new old car and you know how it goes. 4 days turned to 5 and 5 to 6 and 6 to 7….this part that part… so, I’m super bummed to announce that tonight’s Zingara LIVE will be postponed.
