I saw at a young age how men would look at me. Some with pure Love others with wonder and then there were those who looked you so deep, they looked into your eyes and got lost, and whatever they saw, I don’t know but what you saw looking back at them sometimes were met with bewilderment & uneasiness, fear or evil. as a young girl vulnerable with no body autonomy you hide those feelings because no one gave you the language. No one said if any of these things happen, you come to me. Part 1.
“Daughter of Men Who Loved Me / Woman of Men Who Didn’t”
I was raised by hands that held me steady and words that warned me anyway.
“Sit like a lady.” “Clean like you mean it.” “Know what a man expects.”
And then— “All men are dogs, even your daddy.”
So tell me— what do you do with love that teaches you and betrays you in the same breath?
I grew up laughing with boys, running with them, being chosen by them— until one day I wasn’t.
Not for who I am, but for what I could be to them.
And when I gave— oh, I gave— encouragement, softness, loyalty, a place to land when they were breaking…
they learned how to stand again and walked away from me steady.
Like I was just the bridge.
Today I heard something clearer than any man’s voice:
“You don’t need anyone, Ara.” “No one.”
And it didn’t sound bitter. It sounded… tired. Ancient. Protective.
But I don’t want a life where love feels like a liability.
Because I know love. My father showed me— not perfectly, but enough.
Love is gentle. Love is kind. Love does not make you feel used and call it misunderstanding.
So maybe the truth isn’t that men don’t understand me.
Maybe it’s that I have been offering depth to people who only know how to skim.
And today, I am tired of being the ocean for those afraid to get wet.
