I know it can be hard to get yourself in the gym. Sometimes you don’t need more motivation, you just need a plan, some guidance and someone in your corner!

If any of these slides sound familiar, working with a PT could help you find consistency and feel more confident in the gym.

Girl if he can do it, so can you 💅

But seriously, everyone you see in the gym was also once a beginner and it’s really not that deep!

My approach to coaching is, and always will be, holistic. I love to focus on how exercise makes us feel, both physically and mentally, as opposed to just looking at numbers on a scale.

I want my clients to feel seen, heard and supported in a space that so often makes women feel small and intimidated. I want to teach my clients to take up space and not be afraid. To build strength and confidence.

Okayyyyy I might *sometimes* make you do lunges even though you don’t like them, but I usually have a pretty good reason for it 😏

Using wedges or small plates under your heels can help to increase your depth in a squat. Especially if ankle mobility is your limiting factor here.

But it’s worth noting that not being able to get super low in a squat can actually be down to a number of different things - including ankle and hip mobility.

So raising the heels might not work for everyone - always prioritise mobility and work on your technique!

When Roisin first started training with me, exercise wasn’t something she enjoyed. But over time, she’s built her confidence, found a routine that works for her, and reached a point where she feels comfortable going to the gym on her own.

And honestly, this is what it’s all about. 🥹

It’s not just about getting stronger physically. It’s about feeling more confident, becoming more independent, and realising you’re capable of more than you thought.

If you’re someone who feels intimidated by the gym or has never really enjoyed exercise, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

We’re always so quick to compare ourselves to others on this app and immediately feel like we’re miles behind.

But you don’t see the months they’ve spent learning, the exercises they’ve struggled with or the mistakes they’ve made.

Everyone starts from somewhere. You don’t need to know what you’re doing, feel confident or be particularly fit before you start.

That’s what I’m there for! Having a PT can help you build your strength, learn the basics and develop the confidence to feel at home in the gym.

DM me if you’re interested in in-person, online or hybrid coaching options 💌

The RDL is one of the most difficult exercises to teach but I find these 2 hacks can be really helpful to help master the ‘hip hinge’.

Here’s a few other tips and cues for beginners:

🦵 Imagine your legs are stuck in cement. From your knees down, nothing can move. As you send your hips back, keep your lower legs still rather than letting your knees travel forwards.

📍 Keep the weights close! Whether you’re using dumbbells or a barbell, keep them as close to your legs as possible throughout the movement. If they drift away, the movement becomes less efficient and puts more demand on your lower back.

⬇️ You don’t need to take the weights all the way to the floor. Too low and your lower back will start to round. Lower them just below the knees or the middle of the shins before heading back up.

📄 Imagine you’re holding a piece of paper in each armpit. As you hinge keep your arms close to your body so ‘the paper’ doesn’t fall. This helps keep your upper body engaged, so you maintain tension throughout the movement.
