#BeforeYouGo | Black August is on its way out, but never over. I’m sure by now you’ve noticed I’m less concerned with the obligatory bday post; there’s so much tragedy attached to the day that I’ll have to figure sum’n out for next year

The visual maraud I took leaving Mook’s party on the way to transit mall reminded me of a time in DTLB when I started feeling like there was more to do for people in the city, our people especially. With so much going on with and without our involvement, it’s best to look inside to see what you’re able to change on the outside…

#NoStampVember | We got black folks using @destinationcrenshaw’s Nipsey vinyl banner as a blanket before GTA VI. Ironically, this picture was taken just a few feet away from sleezy @mhdcd8’s office. I’ll admit, I could only account for about $50 million and some change in fund allocation, but other articles say it’s up to $92million since inception. Slated to be open EARLY 2025, it’s clear that that isn’t happening anytime soon. A majority of their latest funding ($30 million in New Markets Tax Credits) is supposed to address disparities in the community, yet here WE are in 2025. Betta use that GR wisely and visit @foodrevolutionla Sunday mornings cuz ain’t no tellin’ when or if those stamps’ll drop, peace…

#IceColdTruth | While the philanthropic boil is still steaming in our chaotic cauldron of chaos, I thought it’d be a good time to remind you (as friendly as I can, and what better way than with a picture? :) ) of the other side of our current community issue.

I can unwind the irony in that I used to work for this crap company (and simultaneously their for-profit company in Compton) making money off of our people through case management (nevermind this is @_hopics’ parent company), but by the end of that you’d want the place(s) burned down.

Our people were dying in the streets BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the fires, one. Two, I’ve seen three and four many folks pop up prairie dog style to rescue people in light of the current moment in time so it’s clear that we’re able to help our own.

The homeless mortality rate of 2025 is coming soon, and don’t expect endearing data either because it’s including up to two years worth of reporting. *sidenote, I recently found that @lahomelessservices (yea, Karen Bass’ LAHSA) explicitly told Pacific Palisades’ homeless task force NOT to count the homeless this year on the beach or on PCH, why’s that?

Back when The Broad appeared to still be a condo in construction, the homie @chrisrusanowsky_argo and I used to mob DTLA gettin’ frames. Never would we document the homeless without helping them out tho, unwritten photojournalist rules. If you’re feeling frugal, there’s a cash app you can use to help your community on the last slide. Anyway, have a warm and toasty evening…
