Outtakes from @ginnysuss’s beautiful collection of photos from the Flyboy In The Buttermilk happening at @bklynlibrary, which celebrated the life, memory and work of Greg Tate @avantgroidd whose Pulitzer prizewinning 1992 Essays on Contemporary America is back in print- Flyboy In the Buttermilk will also soon be available as an audiobook narrated in part by @mikelmbanks and scored by @burntsugararkestra conducted by @vurnt22 - It’s so fantastic how Greg Tate continues to inspire and guide us. slide to see my humble attempt to capture the photographer Ginny Suss in action 😻 taken in Brooklyn Public Library by @zodiac.sax

There’s nothing better than celebrating the legendary Greg Tate @avantgroidd. ❤️✨❤️✨ The other night Tate’s family @ctatenutrition and @tate_strategy put together a beautiful event @bklynlibrary with some of his dearest friends, loved ones and colleagues, reminiscing about the forever missed Intergalactic Greg Tate, who we lost far too soon.

@questlove was on the panel being brilliant as usual, and also humbly made it possible to re-issue Greg’s book Flyboy In The Buttermilk via his AUWA Books imprint — if you don’t have the original from ’92 pick up a copy now from your local bookstore. Or get the audiobook where you can hear from Questo, @nifmuhammad and @henrylouisgates in addition to music from @burntsugararkestra and reading from yet another Greg BFF, @mikelspeaklife.

Greg’s other BFF’s, the extraordinary artists @anamibia and @dreamhampton joined the panel, along with @jelanicobb who petitioned for Greg’s posthumous Pulitzer Prize! The event was bookended with Greg’s band and heart, The Burnt Sugar Arkestra, who took us to outer space and back thanks to the conduction of another one of Greg’s bffs (for 40+ years) @vurnt22. Also shout out my bff @zodiac.sax for the groovy Bari sax additions! It was truly a joyful night, a celebration of Greg’s giant heart and giant mind, with readings from Flyboy, and commentary from the panel. It was a family affair. Greg was most certainly in the room. As always, I feel lucky to be a fly on the wall snapping photos of my favorite people. Long live Greg Tate. #GregTate #FlyBoyInTheButtermilk 🩷🩷🩷🩷 by @zodiac.sax
