Honored to have won the @bigwavechallenge Women’s Biggest Paddle Wave Award last night!

There are so many surfers who I’ve looked up to for years who have won this award or been nominated for it, so being part of that group is something I’m really proud of.

Last winter I worked harder than I ever have toward big wave surfing. I spent countless hours training in the gym, prone paddling, and lifeguarding, while getting as many sessions as I could at Mavs, even when the conditions were less than ideal. Everything was with the goal of being prepared when the big swells did come.

The winter season was starting to come to an end when the Todos Santos event was called on. I had never been to this wave, so my goal was to be a sponge and soak up as much information as I could from @gerglong and all the surfers who had put in time out there. I knew I had done the work at home, both in and out of the water to surf the wave, so now I just had to learn the lineups and trust that preparation. A clean wave came to me in the first 15 minutes of the heat and I knew I had to send it. That was definitely the biggest wave I have paddled into so far, and it felt amazing to kick out in the channel and know that the work I had put in was starting to pay off.

Not a big fan of posting iPhone clip reels, but this is one of my favorite moments I have on camera. It was so early and foggy in @grueler and I’s step off session on my last day in Mexico, and this bomb came through. No camera guys were on the beach yet.

Just so happens that @stefangarbee was on the beach and ended up pulling out his iPhone just in time to film this wave. This was his last morning at Pascuales before leaving to continue his bike ride from Santa Cruz to Chile. So stoked to meet people like this when I travel. I’ll never forget that wave.
