@someprintdude brought a litho stone to @zoecouvillion and I’s home last summer in Denton, and we collaboratively drew this image from a composition I had on my iPad from downtime at the retail job I was working my first 6-7 months in Texas. I started my contribution in the days leading up to flying up to Wisconsin for my in-person interview at UWPlatteville.

Throwback to this time last year, because TONIGHT is the application deadline, artists! 🗣️
I was so grateful to spend time at @incahootsresidency in Aug./Sept. of 2024, (coincidentally a single WEEK BEFORE I underwent laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis back in Texas.)
Everyone at In Cahoots was beyond patient, helpful, and understanding. Despite the fact that I was going through one of the most physically painful and tumultuous times I have lived so far, Macy, the staff, and my co-residents made it one of the most artistically freeing and beautiful experiences I have had. ((And they put up with my bizarre pain-induced sleep-schedule, to boot!))

I spent both of my two weeks working on this one copper etching…and its three tiny border-collagraphs.
(This was the first intaglio print I’ve made since undergrad in 2019, and my VERY first copper etching as someone trained in aluminum.)
((Safe to say, copper was much friendlier to my drawings.))
It took every ounce of the time I was there, (down to the hour) and I left with my matrix, my B.A.T. print, and the sincere hope of going back healthier one day.
I also left with ALL of this footage WAITING to be made into a Reel… so today’s the day!
(Editing everything has made me nostalgic; everyone headed that way in the near future, please pet the cats for me.)
I owe a lot of the joy from my post-op-healing-process to these great memories and greater folks.

Howdy Everybody!
In case ya’ didn’t hear, Zoë and I are back in the Midwest! I received an offer as full-time Lecturer in Drawing and Print at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in late June, right before our lease ended in Texas.

We’re about two months in now, having spent most of our summer getting acclimated to our new home, and with classes starting tomorrow at UWPlatte, I’m excited to be back in the classroom.

1. a parchment or the like from which writing has been partially or completely erased to make room for another text.
2. something that has a new layer, aspect, or appearance that builds on its past and allows us to see or perceive parts of its past.

When @jacobtaylorgibson and @devon.stackonis proposed their 𝘗𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘵 portfolio leading into the start of 2023, I was hurting something fierce. At the time, I thought I’d pour some of that pain into this imagery…and into its accompanying writing.
(Stay tuned!)

Working on the same idea—even as I outgrew that grief in the year following—turned everything involved into a sort of palimpsest.
The drawing shifted, the concept deepened, and all the lines of having been crumpled felt a lot less like shame and more worthy of being examined in the light.

Printing stone Litho at home with cramped space is possible! Over the past year I have been working on a new method of possessing litho stones without acids and printing them reliably. If you are going to MAPC 2024 come check out our demo Saturday morning!

@heavyisaheavything -organized by @dbrinkmanprints and @therealskinnymike asked those invited,
“to address the topics of contention we routinely experience through media, institutional powers, and society at large. From the attacks on the universal human rights of our communities’ members and loved ones, the destruction and neglect of our sacred landscape and resources, and the instances personal of loss and tribulations, how do we carry this weight?”

I had this image stirring (in my heart AND sketchbook) for months before this exchange was announced, and knew this would be where it ended up.

The accompanying poem slowly spilled out of the prints after I’d finished the edition.

I’ve been telling my students this semester NOT to think of their visual art and writing as two parts of a meal—one a main-course and one a dessert—but, INSTEAD, to know that if one is a meal, the other is utensil with which to consume it.

Most things I’m working on these days come with poems- so I hope y’all are ready for a cutlery display! 🫀🍽️
